Summary: Artist Dave Dorman’s DC Comics Batman cover was featured in the new
History Channel documentary, “Time Machine: Comic Book Super Heroes
Unmasked.”
SHALIMAR, FL
When local illustrator Dave Dorman finally got around to watching the History Channel documentary he had videotaped this past July, he wasn’t expecting to see his own artwork featured, but it was, much to his surprise.
The documentary, “ Time Machine: Comic Book Super Heroes Unmasked,” highlighted Dorman’s DC Comics Batman cover during the segment discussing comics with political agendas. “I did this piece back in 1993,” Dorman recalls. “It stirred controversy because of its strong gun control theme, but the impetus was that a Warner
Bros. executive lost his only son in a senseless shooting. The Warner Bros. team did this book to raise money for the John A. Reisenbach Foundation, named after the slain young man, which promoted gun control education activities.”
Dorman, voted the #1 Star Wars Artist of All Times , has been illustrating for the comics, packaging and entertainment industries since 1982, all from Okaloosa County, admittedly, an unlikely place to find such a high-profile artist. “That’s why I like it here,” he admits. “It allows me to fly under radar, unnoticed.”
