Mission:
The mission of the Office Systems Technology associate degree is to provide quality educational opportunities in response to
community need and through excellence in teaching which leads to initial employment and career advancement in the
administrative field for a business office.
Purpose:
The Office Systems Technology curriculum will assist students in developing basic and advanced skills in micro-computer word
processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, web page and database design and maintenance. Students will focus on
communication, accounting, professional development and office management skills, as well as office procedures.

Evaluation and Use of Results: Students struggle with the converting word problems into formulas in the spreadsheet class.
More practice and training exercises can be provided to help develop this area. A module of database software is being added
to the content of CPT-101 – Introduction to Computers for the 2004-05 academic year. This will provide an introduction to the
topic which should improve success at the next level.

Evaluation and Use of Results: Students receive a working knowledge of the beginning phases of accounting. Excel projects
are used to strengthen the content and are sometimes difficult for students if CPT-101 – Introduction to Computers has not
been completed prior to taking this course.

Evaluation and Use of Results: The content of these 2 courses is such that students are given assignments to complete with
instructor direction and assistance in OST-141 and similar assignments with little direction and intervention in OST-142. This
process allows students to practice similar tasks many times at increasing levels of difficulty.
