“So You Said Yes”
SYNOPSIS
Annabelle Blanche is finally living her dream. Having given up a successful career in the city in
advertising, she and her best friend, Maya, have just opened “So You Said Yes,” a bridal
boutique specializing in vintage clothing and accessories. Their goal: provide brides-to-be
something other than the traditional poufy white, to express their own individuality; there’s
now an option to “Ever After,” the poufy white competition across town. So You Said Yes is
guaranteed 100% tulle-free.
Funny thing about Annabelle though – she’s not the least bit interested in becoming a bride
herself. This is strictly professional – though Maya hopes that will change. Even her dad, Nick
– himself a veteran of three passes down the aisle – wants to see Annabelle fill out her life.
While assisting a customer who’s complaining of her fiancé’s plans to turn their honeymoon into
a golf vacation, Annabelle mistakes a good looking man, Sam Taylor, who has come in to warn
her that her car is about to be towed, for the fiancé. While busily chewing him out, she
watches her car disappear, snapping at Sam for not warning her!
The well-liked Sam, an attorney, also can’t escape the good intentions of those who’d like to
see him hitched up – like town busybody, Beverly, who wants to hook him up with her dentist
(no thanks!). Sam does happen upon Annabelle in a coffee shop and attempts to strike up a
conversation, even offering her a muffin – she doesn’t eat sweets (or so she says) – but it’s to
no avail. Annabelle never gets beyond “grump.”
Annabelle and Maya prepare for the grand opening party of the shop, while continuing to troll
thrift stores for unique items to sell. Annabelle receives a note from Sam, who’s responding to
an e-mail from Maya inviting him to the party – he can’t make it, though Maya wishes Annabelle
would at least give him a chance.
While the party is going on the next day, Claire, the conservative owner of Ever After, helps a
customer, assisted by her right-hand-man, Edward. But the bride-to-be is eager to check out
“that new place” – Annabelle’s shop. So Claire and Edward decide to go, too, bringing a gift
basket of sweets, as well as a frosty attitude. Annabelle welcomes her regardless, even
suggesting the two meet for coffee.
Sam finally arrives, after the party has wrapped up, and Maya leaves him and Annabelle alone
to finally have some private noshing on party leftovers, Annabelle peppering their chat with
factoids from a variety of cultures (which she picked up from the likes of elevator info screens
and documentaries). They go for an evening stroll, coming upon Ever After, prompting
Annabelle to tell Sam about her exchange with the store’s iceberg-like owner.
Said owner, Claire, it turns out, is Sam’s mother. On a visit, he tries to bring up his budding
relationship with Annabelle, but, true to form, Claire never lets him get a word in edgewise, all
the while slamming her new competitor.

The two go on their first official date – excuse us, “outing,” as Annabelle corrects – to the
venue of her choice: a thrift store, filled with candidates for her own, driven there in Sam’s
vintage – or “classic,” as he corrects – Porsche. While she finds a potential wedding dress, Sam
spots an old watch with the inscription, “I will love you until the end of time.” They’re soon
confronted by Beverly, who almost blurts out. . who Sam’s mother is.
Claire observes a banner on Annabelle’s shop touting her social networking success –
something the out-of-touch Claire has no knowledge about. And while Claire offers some comfy
coffee and cookies, the stuffy Claire decides to offer pastry and espresso (or “expresso,” has
her inept assistant has written on their banner).
For Date No. 2, Sam takes Annabelle to one of his favorite spots – the golf course, where he
teaches her to putt – and steals a happy first kiss. They also come upon his long-ago ex,
Hillary Jackson, now just friends. She, too, is quickly hurried off, though, when Sam’s mother’s
identity is again almost inadvertently revealed.
Back at Annabelle’s, she’s making a “Middle Eastern night” supper – though it unfortunately
burns. So the two order in pizza and enjoy the simplest, and nicest, of dates, enjoying a warm
supper and watching a movie.
Many more dates follow, as the two easily fall in love. On one such date, he confronts her
about her aversion to words like “date” and “girlfriend.” Annabelle explains that, after her
mother’s death, her father, Nick, developed a revolving door of girlfriends and wives, something
she fears for herself.
Claire and Edward arrive at the town mayor’s house to show his engaged daughter their wares
– only to find Annabelle and Maya. While the latter’s Japanese-themed choices appeal to the
bride, Claire’s ring true to the mother – prompting bickering between the two sellers that results
in their being excused from the house!
Meanwhile, Claire struggles to understand modern marketing (it’s “Facebook,” not “Friendbook.
. . ”), while Annabelle keeps ringing up hundreds of “Likes” and has a Groupon about to hit, as
well as a guest blog post.
In a vain attempt to reconnect Sam and Hillary, Claire invites them each to the same party –
where Sam finally breaks the news to his mother about Annabelle. Annabelle is furious about
Sam never revealing his mother’s identity, refusing to see him. He eventually catches up with
her at her yoga class, and the two declare a truce.
They accept an invitation to dinner at Claire’s, where she and Annabelle begin to bump heads
until Annabelle admires Claire’s long-ago wedding picture. She sports a simple, but lovely,
wedding dress – prompting her to explain that as her reason for getting into her business – to
offer brides-to-be a real choice of elegance, something she never had.
Nick meets his daughter and encourages her to go ahead and take the plunge and enjoy being
in love with Sam, though Claire would still rather see her son get back together with Hillary

(who is, herself, happy for her ex). Trying to help, she meets Annabelle for coffee, but after
rattling off a few primo dates she had had with Sam long ago, Annabelle goes into a tizzy,
requiring Sam to reassure her: pizza and a movie on TV is still the perfect date, as far as
they’re concerned. He finally. . . pops the question – Yes.
Claire, having finally found a degree of affection with Annabelle, offers to help her future
daughter-in-law plan her and Sam’s wedding – but, of course, can’t help but take over,
everything from seating to food to the wedding space to the dress; they can’t agree on
anything. At Claire’s engagement party at a fancy restaurant, Annabelle similarly can’t find
anything in common with Claire’s stuffy friends, eventually retreating to the kitchen to “stress
eat” – sweets, of course. Sam tries to arrange a sit-down get-it-off-your-chest meeting
between the two, but it ends in disaster – Claire and Annabelle simply don’t get along. Her
relationship with Sam can never work because of it.
Her father, Nick, though, lets her know that the perfect match doesn’t come along that often.
Edward, stepping out on the limb, says the same to his boss, letting Claire know that her son
really has found his match. Finally able to see the truth, Claire goes to Sam and gives her full
support to his marriage to Annabelle, after realizing her biggest fear was that she would indeed
lose him – to the perfect girl. He assures her she’s losing no one, but gaining a daughter.
She arrives at Annabelle’s shop, just at closing, asking for help in dressing a unique bride.
While there, she tells the story of her own first meeting with her late husband’s family –
hopelessly sophisticated, leaving her feeling helpless. Her fiancé told her he could never be
without her and to give them a chance as they are – something she realizes she must now do
herself. She offers Annabelle a special “something borrowed” for her upcoming wedding. . . her
own simple wedding dress. The two women end up planning the wedding together.
