Use a knowledge of Latin vocabulary to help understand the English language, as well as other Romance languages 3. Identify and explain Latin and English grammatical concepts 4. Understand the life in Ancient Rome through its history, culture, and daily life 5. Appreciate ALL that the Romans have done for us! Instructional Processes: These include reading, class discussion, games, notes, language practice (both written and spoken), exercises, projects, translations, quizzes, and tests. Grading Scale: Tests (BIG Quizzes) – 40% Tests are given over every 1 – 3 stages. They are cumulative and cover vocabulary, grammar, translations, comprehension, derivatives, culture, and stories. Quizzes – 30% Quizzes (and POP quizzes) cover vocabulary, grammar, culture, comprehension, and stories. Homework and Participation – 20% Includes grammar exercises, translations, games, comprehension checks, and in-‐class participation. Many homework grades are completion grades; some assignments are turned in and graded. There are deductions for late work. Cotidie Labor (Daily Work) – 10% Daily work is done at the beginning of every class. It includes a short assignment and a Latin You Can Use phrase (LYCU…e.g. lux per scientiam). This work is turned in at the end of every week. One day of the week is graded out of 10 points. LYCU phrases are known to “pop” up randomly throughout the year.
