EXECUTIVE MESSAGE
CAMBA: Where You Can is a philosophy where anything is possible.”
We are pleased to share CAMBA’s 2014 Annual
Report, giving you a snapshot of our work over the
past year.
Our tagline, CAMBA: Where You Can, encompasses
the breadth of our services and the philosophy that
underpins our work and mission. It’s a philosophy
where anything is possible, and it’s work we carry out
with more than 160 programs and services, 70 sites
and 45,000 clients throughout New York City.
Joanne M. Oplustil, left; Katherine O’Neill, right
Through our comprehensive, integrated programs,
CAMBA not only furnishes our clients with an
extensive tool box, but we also teach them to
use the tools inside. We connect people with the
opportunities they need to overcome obstacles. We
believe in the strength and resiliency of our clients.
With a new-found hand up from CAMBA, they
discover they CAN undertake the challenging efforts
that improve their lives — and succeed.
We couldn’t accomplish this without you. As a CAMBA
supporter, you make it possible for us to respond to
immediate, life-threatening crises like hunger and
homelessness and to provide services that help people
achieve permanent, life-changing transformations.
We hope you’ll take pride in reading this report, and
we give you our deepest thanks for making these
achievements possible.
In the following report, you’ll read about our services
and meet some of the people who have embraced these
opportunities. These are people who have discovered
they CAN build a successful small business or prepare
for a job, CAN learn English as an adult, CAN start
down a path to college, CAN master parenting skills
and ensure their child gets a healthy start to life, CAN
find immediate shelter or permanent housing or get
legal help to become a citizen.

Working in partnership with CAMBA — you CAN
make a lasting difference in our communities!

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Generous supporters like you enable CAMBA to fulfill community needs and respond to families and individuals
in crisis. There are many ways you can make a difference:
Cash
Gifts may be made by check (payable to CAMBA) or
through our secure website, CAMBA.org.
Other Planned Gifts
Donate various trusts, annuities and gifts of significant
non-cash assets, such as real estate, to CAMBA. Talk
with your attorney for more information and advice.
Sustainer
Become a CAMBA Sustainer and make a greater impact.
Allocate an automatic withdrawal from your checking
account or credit card (at least $10 per month).
Memorial/Honorary Gifts
Designate your donation to remember or honor a
family member or friend. We will promptly send a
tribute acknowledgment, at your request.
Corporate Matching Gifts
Increase the value of your gift as much as 100% by
taking advantage of your company’s matching gift
program. Check with the human resources department
of your or your spouse’s company for details.
Where You Can…
IRA Transfers
If you own a traditional or Roth IRA and are age 70 or
older, you can transfer up to $100,000 a year to CAMBA
without paying taxes on the withdrawal. Note: this rule
does not apply to employer-sponsored retirement plans.
make a difference
Events
Enjoy CAMBA Night Out, our annual gala; run in
our Healthy Way 5k; spend an evening at a Brooklyn
Cyclones game; or join us to shop at Saks and sip
cocktails. CAMBA offers many fundraising events
throughout the year.
Bequests
Make helping New Yorkers your legacy by adding
CAMBA to your bequest. Talk with your attorney for
more information.
In-Kind Contributions
Gifts of clothing, toys, books and furniture — in good
condition — are always needed by our programs. Our
Food Pantry needs non‑expired canned and boxed
food items to fill its shelves.
Appreciated Stock
If you own stocks, mutual funds or other securities
that are worth more than your original purchase price,
contribute them to CAMBA and receive a tax deduction
for the full current value, avoiding the capital gains tax
you would incur by selling the assets outright.
Celebrate Milestones
Supporting CAMBA can be a meaningful gift for
people who are celebrating a milestone in their
lives. Many people choose donations in lieu of gifts
for weddings, birthdays, bar and bat mitzvahs,
confirmations and holidays. CAMBA will acknowledge
gifts given in a loved one’s honor with a personalized
thank you card.
Are your securities worth less than your original
purchase price? It may be best to sell them and make
a tax deductible cash contribution to CAMBA.
Call CAMBA’s Director of Development at (718) 287 – 2600 x20321 for more information.
Invest in Art
and in Families
CAMBA’s Shona Art Gallery
sells beautiful, handcarved stone sculptures
from Zimbabwe, which
help support our services
for New Yorkers in need
and provide a livelihood for
the African artisans. View
our Shona art online at
ShonaSculptures.com.
