Welcome to the 2015-16 season of art education hosted by The Naples Art Association (NAA). We are committed to providing creative opportunities to enrich your lives and connect you to your innate creative soul regardless of your age or skill level. Art education is a key component in our mission, each art instructor is a professional artist in their own right and has contracted with the NAA to bring you high quality classes and workshops to help you achieve your creative goals. Art speaks to each of us differently, take the time this season to experience a new medium or technique in one of our weekly classes or multi-day workshops or get a quick dose of art in our Just for Fun series. We accept cash, check or credit from Visa, MasterCard or Discover. • When registering online, please note that the listed pricing reflects non-member rates, which are $50 more per class or workshop. Member prices will be discounted upon purchase. • Enrollment is limited and spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis. The instructor reserves the right to cancel any program that does not meet minimum enrollment. • Class and workshop supply lists are available on our website. • Preregistration is strongly encouraged for all classes. Each class requires a minimum of six students. In the event of a class cancellation, students will be notified by phone and email the Wednesday before the class starts. Some classes require materials, so please be sure to ask for a supply list in advance! • Transfers/Cancellations: All transfers/cancellations will incur a $10 administrative fee. Cancellations received less than 14 days before the start of class will incur a 25% cancellation fee. No refund will be given within one week of the first day of class. This workshop will introduce the wonderful potential of clay. Students will have a blast expressing themselves artistically while creating both functional and non functional pottery. Each class session students will learn a new hand building technique for creating and finishing wonderful clay pieces! Cost: Members $100, Non-Members $100 Clay Portrait Sculpture Koehler Session 1-6 Wednesday 1-4p This class should be considered an introduction to sculpture with clay. Most people are not aware of how easy it is to do a portrait in three dimensions. If you like art, Mr. Koehler can teach you to sculpt. It takes the average student about 12 hours of work to turn out a clay piece. From there, Mr. Koehler will show them how to create a casting of their piece. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish and you will have fun in the process. Cost: Session 1, 2, 5, 6: Members $165, Non-Members $215 Session 3, 4: Members $190, Non-Members $240 Wheel & Handbuilding Clay Torrance Session 1-5 Monday 9a-12p Discover the processes used to create functional forms with hand building or learning to use the potters wheel. Step by step instruction will get you started with comfort to learn the methods of construction as well as a variety of surface decoration embellishments. Donna will teach the true beginner or brainstorm with experienced potters. As you enjoy the tactile qualities of clay, your projects will be fired with food safe glazes. Imagine creating your favorite mug, a serving bowl for Thanksgiving, or the perfect gift. You will be amazed at what you can do! Cost: Session: 1, 2, 5, 6: Members $140, Non-Members $190 Session: 3, 4: Members $165, Non-Members $215 8 Sketching For Beginners Platt Session 1-6 Wednesday 9a-12p Learn the basics of sketching in this class, where you’ll focus on the aspects of line, form, value, perspective, and proportioning. Cost: Session 1, 2, 5, 6: Members $140, Non-Members $190 Session 3, 4: Members $165, Non-Members $215 MULTIMEDIA Building Art Up & Out-Collage, Assemblage, Construction Kell Session 3 Thursday 9a-12p In this exciting class you use a wide variety of materials— papers, wood, found objects, leaves, dried flowers, old costume jewelry, fabrics, twigs, broken china or glass, stones, pebbles, doilies, feathers, marbles, sequins, old photos, ribbon, thread, cardboard—anything you can imagine—to make art with dynamic 3-D expression! By combining images and objects in unexpected ways you create visual poetry that is open to broad interpretation, full of metaphors whose meaning may only be revealed upon the completion of the work. You will make art that challenges established boundaries of materials, techniques and expression. Cost: Members $165, Non-Members $215 Elements of Design Kell Session 2 Thursday 1-4p Have you ever wondered why your artwork seems to lack visual impact? .....or how you could bring new strength to your art that doesn’t work? By learning to apply The Elements of Arting--color, shape, space, form, line, texture and space-like a master, you succeed! You begin each class seeing 10 master works by great artists as diverse as Picasso, Calder, Christo, Klee, Cezanne, Albers and Escher--each image illustrating one of these essential elements of design and composition. You finish up each class by creating or recreating your own powerful work of art--as you apply these powerful elements. By using either artwork you have previously started or by beginning new work--and by using any combination of materials and techniques you want to explore--from painting to drawing to collage--and beyond--you create art that works! Cost: Members $140, Non-Members $190 CLASSES Members Open Studio Session 1-6 Wednesday 1-4p with Model Saturday 9a-3p No Model Enjoy our open studio space! This time is not a structured class; rather, it’s for personal painting time. Save money on Open Studio fees with the “Open Studio Membership” available at $25 per year. Per insurance liability issues, all open studio artists must register at reception desk before proceeding to studio. When model is supplied, the cost is passed on to the artists who use this service. Cost: Members $5/hr , Non-Members $50/hr Primal Arting-Essential Expressionism Kell Session 4 Thursday 9a-12p In Primal Arting you are challenged to explore new ways to express your uniqueness through both traditional and non-traditional approaches to art as you use a variety of materials and and experiment with new methods. As you let yourself be guided and encouraged by the influences, strategies and characteristics of contemporary art you learn to take artistic risks and trust your natural instincts. As you come to a new understanding of art’s value in society and art’s power to re-make the artist, you also discover your personal, visual vernacular--your style!
