Studio classes in the Art Department involve elaborate setup, clean up, and environmental and mechanical safety issues. This takes instructional time from the beginning and end of each class session. For that reason it is Art
Department’s policy that we meet four hours of lab instead of
3 for 1 unit.
COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an intermediate study of compositional, technical and content related elements in opaque acrylic paint. Not repeatable.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:

Synthesize the picture plane through composition, color, and line.
Demonstrate technical proficiency with acrylic paint, various acrylic mediums, and painting tools.
Observe painting subject matter and analyze its components via color, composition, texture.
Discuss the historical context of contemporary painting.
Discuss and evaluate contemporary art concepts and trends.
Identify and reinforce individual stylistic concerns.
Develop resource material and subject matter for painting.

25 % Value study review
30 % Color studies employing live models, photographic sources, and landscapes
45 % Paintings based on, and developed from, color studies, the figure, photographic sources and landscapes.
