Name _______________________________ LEGACY OF ROME PROJECT The Roman Empire had a tremendous impact on world history, and still does even many years after its fall. In this project, you will choose from many different ways to represent some of the many achievements of the Roman Empire. Option 1 - Roman Architecture and Engineering Models From aqueducts to domes and arches to over 50,000 miles of roads, the Romans were amazing builders. Choose two of the Roman achievements and create models that represent them. You can build a road out of any material you like, but be sure to show the many different layers. Include a map which shows where the roads went in the empire. Or you may build models of arches or aqueducts. Or you can even design a Roman-style vacation villa that includes arches, domes and other features of Roman architecture. Whichever option you choose, you must have a brief written explanation of these achievements and their legacy -- where they are found today. (1-3 people) OPTION 2 – The Byzantine Empire After the Western Roman Empire fell, the Byzantine Empire survived for 1000 more years. Find out about this empire by researching some of its best leaders (such as Diocletian, Constantine, and Justinian), as well as it’s legacy (buildings, mosaics, code of laws, etc.). Then you can choose to present this information in any way you choose, but it must contain both visuals and text. (2-4 people) OPTION 3 –Glog of Roman Achievements Learn how to use Glogster to create a Glog, which is a digital interactive poster (a great alternative to Power Point). Your Glog will include pictures, relevant video links, even music and of course text to explain Roman Achievements in building, government, language and numbers. (1-3 people) OPTION 4 – Famous Roman Leaders Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Marius, Gaius Gracchus, Diocletian -- these are just a few of the Roman leaders we studied so far this year. Choose at least three influential leaders in Rome’s history and explain their impact in one of the following ways: a Glog, a talk show that goes back in time or brings leaders back, or you can try Voki.com. Voki allows you to create different avatars who explain information. Decide which leaders you want to include, create your avatars, and let them tell the information. (1-4 people) OPTION 5 – CREATE YOUR OWN PROJECT In this option, you would come up with your own idea to show what you have learned about the legacy of the Roman Empire. Possible ideas include a Prezi, Go Animate cartoon, skit or other idea of your choice. This option must be approved by your teacher. HERE’S HOW IT WILL WORK We will work in the library for three days, and you will have to do your part at home. When you choose partners, make sure they are people you know you can work well with and can get together with if needed outside of school. Use your notes, textbook, books from the library and reliable online sources to find your information. This project will count as a test grade and will be due on Friday, October 25th. A detailed rubric will follow. Have fun and be creative!
