December, 2009 Dear Chaplains, I find it very difficult to believe that it has been 21 years since I first began working at the Office of Health Care Ministry. I was privileged to have been hired shortly after the Office was formed by its first Director, Fr. Lucien Sawyer, OMI. It has always been my conviction that my being hired was a gift from God because I loved being part of the mission of the Church. The most rewarding aspect of my work has been to support the wonderful ministry that you do daily. You are the face of Jesus to those who are sick among us. I can only imagine the countless times that you have been at bedside bringing the love and compassion of Christ to those in need. I’m honored to have known you and to have shared so much with you. I know the Lord will bless you abundantly for your dedication and service. You were so supportive to me at the time of the deaths of my parents and I thank you again for your care. I had felt that I was wrapped in a blanket of compassion and prayers. It has been a joy to work with Jim. You are blessed to have a Director who is so pastoral and knowledgeable. I am looking forward to retirement to be able to travel and to be more involved in parish ministry. However, it is bittersweet because I will miss seeing all of you very much. Those of us who work in the Lord’s vineyard have many occasions to meet, so hopefully I will see you at some time in the future. In Christ’s love, Joanne Volume 21, No. 6 A Christmas Prayer “Loving Father, help us to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift, and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake.
