I lived in the middle of the city a few miles from the French Quarter and Debbie lived on the outskirts of town. However, we have lived the majority of our lives in Virginia and now consider ourselves Virginians. My love of Corvettes started when I was eight years old. There were two older girls that lived down the street from me and one day one of their boyfriends showed up in a new 1954 Corvette. It was white with a red interior. From that moment on I dreamed of owning a Corvette. Well, 53 years passed before my dream came true. There were lots of things that happened between the time I was eight years old until I was finally able to purchase my first Corvette. I guess the biggest obstacle was money. Raising a family always kept the budget very tight. Putting three kids through college ain't cheap! I am sure most people can identify with that. Once I retired and the nest was empty the financial picture looked brighter. We moved to the Gordonsville area and at that point I started looking for my Corvette. One day in the early summer of 2007, I visited Jim Price Chevrolet to see if they had any Corvettes on the lot. Sure enough they had one on the showroom floor. I always thought if I ever bought a Corvette it would probably be red. The one at Jim Price was black on black with chrome wheels, and I loved it. As I stared at the sticker price I wondered if I could find a good used Corvette for a lot less. I went home and began searching the Internet. After a few days one popped up in Maryland. It was a 2001 year model with low mileage (12,900 if I remember correctly). And, it was black on black with chrome Z06 wheels. I made an appointment with the owner and then drove to Maryland to see the car. It was almost in factory condition. It was a nobrainier. I bought the Corvette (it was half the price of the one on the showroom floor at Jim Price) and the rest is history. -4- Once I had the Corvette I started thinking about joining a Corvette club. A search of the Internet found the Blue Ridge Corvette Club. I attended the next meeting at the Blue Ridge Cafe in Ruckersville to see what the club was all about. As the meeting progressed I thought to myself these are really nice people who also love Corvettes. Then they voted to see if I could be a member. They asked me to leave the room so I went outside the building and looked through the glass door to watch them vote. I thought this was really weird and began to wonder if I wanted to be a part of this group. However, once I was accepted into the club I quickly realized what a great group of people I would be associating with throughout the year. Now, I have to admit to everyone that I have a problem with that damn new C7. I want one!!! -5- UPCOMING EVENTS April 18th Zion Crossroads Annual Car Cruiz’n Fish Fry April 18th OCC’s Cruise in @ the Orange Burger King 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. April 25th Spring BBQ at Alan & Brenda Brandhofer-New Market, VA See flyer pg. 7 April 25th The 66th Charlottesville Dogwood Festival Parade (CLUB EVENT) May 9th Jim Rimel – Hosting a Private Car Show @ The Barn.
