SUKI FOR Designs on Bali Leather look A FEW years ago if you mentioned the words ‘‘Bali’’ and ‘‘fashion’’, a vision of beerdrinking Aussies in Bintang singlets and rubber thongs instantly came to mind. Thanks in part to the growing number of Australian designers running businesses over there, the Indonesian island is now a hub for emerging fashion talent. So it makes sense that this year it will launch the inaugural Fashion Festival Bali and you can bet we’ll be fairly well represented. Australian brands Pared Eyewear, Triangl swimwear and Shakuhachi (pictured) have signed on to take part in the week-long event which will kick off on August 24 with a party hosted by Tatler magazine. It really feels incredible and I got it from the same supplier which supplies Hermes. They’ve been working with them for many years,’’ he says. ‘‘There are some very special dresses and you can’t really tell they’re leather until you see the garments in real life and you realise how amazing it is that you can actually drape leather like that.’’ Kapp’s new collection is in store now. The rest of this year will see it tackle the US with a show planned for New York Fashion Week next month and the launch of its first American retail store. ‘‘We have a strong love and renewed energy for New York. We just shot the Suki campaign there, we have the show coming up and the new store opening later this year,’’ says Middleton. The design duo says Waterhouse is the perfect face for the new range. With a portfolio that includes work with H&M and Tatler magazine and a highly publicised romance with actor Bradley Cooper, Waterhouse has now firmly established herself as a global ‘‘It girl’’. &BIDE Palermo to visit US fashion plate Olivia Palermo is set to visit Australia for the first time.
