CourseDescription
ThiscourseisacontinuationofACC301--IntermediateAccountingI.Intermediate
Accountingisthemostimportantaccountingcourseforaccountingmajors.Masteryofthe
contentofferedinbothintermediatecourseswillpreparestudentsforcareersinfinancial
accountingandtopasstheFARsectionoftheCPAexamination.

FinalGrades
Finalcoursegradeswillbeassignedbasedonthestudent'spercentoftheexampointsin
thiscourse.Thereareeightexamsandafinalexam.Iwillexcludeyourlowestscorefrom
thegradingandthenfittheclassscoresintoaGaussiandistributionskewedtotheleftwith
ameanofaB+(i.e.,acurve).Theexaminationswillbedifficult–targetedatCPA
examinationlevel,butthegradingdistributionwillreflectthis.
Timewillbeafactorduringtheexamsinthiscourseandstudentsareexpectedto
effectivelybudgettheirtimeduringexamsinordertoproducethemaximumscorepossible
inthetimeallowed.

ExamPolicies
Asnotedabove,nineexamswillbegiveninthiscourse.Examsareclosed-book,closednote,andnoelectronicdeviceapartfromasingle-functioncalculatormaybeonthe
desktopduringanexam.Specifically,keepallcellphones,PDA'sandiPodTouchunitsoff
thedesktopduringanexam.
Problemsusedonexamswillbesimilartoproblemsinthebook.Textmaterialineach
chaptermayalsobeincludedonexams.
Theonlyacceptablereasonsformissinganexamisaseriousillnessorinjuryoradeathin
thestudent'simmediatefamily(thatmustbeverifiedbytheDeanofStudentsOffice).
However,unlessitisphysicallyimpossible(suchasinthecaseofaseriousinjury),the
studentmustcontacttheprofessor(inpersonorbyemail)BEFOREtheexamandreceive
permissiontomisstheexamandtoscheduleamake-update.Failuretodothiswillresultin
azeroscoreontheexam–remember,oneexamscorewillbedeletedincalculatingthe
coursegrade,butyouarebetteroffnothavingtouseazerothisway.
Examsaredesignedtomeasureandarealsopartofthelearningexperience.Thenumberof
itemsonanexamtakesintoconsiderationthe50-minuteclassperiodsandhowlongittakes
astudentwhoispreparedtocompletetheexam.Studentsnotpreparedforanexamwill
feelthatthereisinsufficienttimebecausetherewillnotbetimetolearnhowtodothe
problemswhiletakingtheexam.Effectivelybudgetingone'stimeinordertoaccomplishthe
mostinarestrictedtimeperiodisanintegralpartofmostbusinessandaccountingjobs.
