The financial position of the organization is sound.The strong financial performance of the organization is reflected in its commitment to quality reporting and in the implementation of successful strategic initiatives. Assets at the end of 2007 were $4.1 million, an increase of $536,000 or 15% from the $3.6 million at the end of 2006. Liabilities remained small at $22,300, yielding a fund balance of $4.1 million at the end of 2007. The increase in assets were due primarily to the growth in the investment account. Investments increased from $3.4 million in 2006 to $4.0 million in 2007; an increase of $606,000 or 18% from 2006. Investments represent 97% of the total assets of the Foundation. Income earned on the investments was $282,000 in 2007, up 19% from the $238,000 earned in 2006.The investment strategy of the Foundation is reviewed periodically to ensure that all earnings objectives are being met. Revenues were $1.45 million in 2007, down 10% from the $1.59 million achieved in 2006.The largest components of revenue in 2007 came from Membership of $483,895, and from Contributions of $441,673. Expenses for the year totaled $910,806, thereby achieving an excess of revenues over expenses of $540,900. The Foundation has a total of 152 endowments of which 70 were capitalized in 2007. Topics will include money management, investing, career options, credit, homeownership, and entrepreneurship in a fun age appropriate atmosphere. S S I S T A N C E A W A R D S Legacy Scholars Program Alpha Gamma Omega • Los Angeles, CA A computer, literacy, and parental involvement project for 3rd-5th graders. Legacy Scholars Program is geared to enhance computer skills, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and other academic skills. Compassion Training & Awarness Center Edna Sutton • Cleveland, OH Compassion Training & Awareness Center provides 8 week training programs to family members and health aides with specialized training and certification. Basic courses included wheelchair transfers, training in cooking, general hygiene, grooming etc. Sixty participates signed up to learn essential services for those with limited mobility. The program also empowered individuals to live in their own homes with the highest degree of independence possible. The Effect of Pharmacy Curriculum on Pharmacy Student Cultural Competence Carla Denise Clemmons, MS • Chicago, IL The primary benefit of this project is to help in the reduction and elimination of health disparities by providing an assessment of the cultural competency content with health professional education. Ivy AKAdemy (Pearls of Wisdom) Monzella Thomas • Tucson, AZ IVY AKAdemy (Pearls of Wisdom) is designed to teach young girls ages 10-16 the art of being a lady.The 60 girls participated in workshops and learned the four S's (self esteem, self respect, sisterhood, and social manners). The program provided young women with sisterhood skills and the importance of loving self. Sister 2 Sister Delta Tau Omega • Lansing, MI Sister 2 Sister is a conference for young girls to discuss self-esteem, discipline, and scholarships. Sister 2 Sister provides the girls with positive influences and activities to motivate them. Project EA-YA (Economic Awareness-Youth Academy) Juanita Dawson • Chino, CA Project EA-YA (Economic Awareness-Youth Academy) assisted minority students in grades 4th-8th with language arts, mathematics, and developing economic awareness. All students who participated in the program showed improvement in reading and mathematic skills. Scores on CST test increased by 70% from the previous year. Ivy Fit Camp Monica Finley • Oklahoma City, OK Ivy Fit Camp is program designed to assist minority girls with becoming healthy adults. The program is a one day camp for 100 girls in grades 4-6 held in Oklahoma City area. The program included after school tutoring, money management skills, and reading, math, and workshop sessions. Upon the camp's completion FCAT subtests increased, parents increased involvement in their children's education, and disciplinary referrals decreased. S.L.A.M Students Loving Adventures in Math Amanda Hattaway • Boston, MA S.L.A.M. is a program that allows students the ability to be able to use graphing calculators. S.L.A.M. also motivates high school students and exposes them to the beauty of mathematics. The program prepares students for the questions on SAT that require graphing calculators. 21st Annual Black History Teleconference Benedict College • Columbia, SC The 21st Annual Black History Teleconference is a two-day event, held at Benedict College in Columbia, SC. The event beginnings with a teleconference reception/dinner and ended with the D.O.D.D. (Department of Defense Dependent) telecast. The telecast was seen by 184 senior high schools on local PBS stations across the U.S. and 117 foreign countries. Schools in 10 foreign countries also carry the D.O.D.D. programs. Tapes are shown by school faculty to inform D.O.D.D. students (especially the seniors) of the contributions made African Americans in the United States and across the world. The teleconference inspires young people that they too can make a difference. Project Spear Delta Sigma Omega • Salisbury, MD Project Spear is held in Wicomico County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Volunteers provide tours, workshops, and homework assistance to at-risk African American males age 11-14 years old. The program enhances future goals, exposes them to social skills, and a new outlook towards school. RAPPERS (Rural Area Program Promoting Educational Robotics and Science) LaJean Burnett/mid-America Science Museum • Hot Springs, AR RAPPERS (Rural Area Program Promoting Educational Robotics and Science) introduces disadvantaged students ages 6-14 to mechanical building using Lego pieces and programming using interactive C programming language. This program sponsored students attending the Arkansas Regional Botball Robotics Competition. Students formed teams to develop science and communication skills. Afterschool AKAdemy Economic Keys to Success Rho Xi Omega Charities, Inc. • Baltimore, MD Afterschool AKAdemy Economic Keys to Success strives to improve student performance in school and provide a safe environment after school for girls in grades 6-8. The program provides students with one on one tutoring, encourages students to gain confidence by increasing self-esteem, and interest students in areas that might lead to future careers. Strengthening Communities 9 Programs AKAdemy Mentoring Program Cynthia Lartigue Eubanks • Topeka, KS AKAdemy Mentoring Program provided mentorship programs along with workshops to 20 girls in grades 6th-12th. The events were held in both Topeka and Lawrence communities. Undergraduate sorors assisted students with computer skills, preparing resumes, and summer job hunting.
