IST 331 - Modern Database Design and Implementation Summer 2002 Dr. Howard Paul, BU 332, (216) 687-3685, pu@cis.csuohio.edu, http://cis.csuohio.edu/~pu Objective: This course provides an in-depth discussion of the new tools and technologies that are shaping modern database management. Detailed coverage of database concept, logical and physical database designs (ER Model), SQL, client/server and internet databases. Case studies are used to illustrate the role of database analysis and design concepts in the total systems development process. The student will become proficient in the utilization of Microsoft-Access database management systems. Textbooks: Modern Database Management, 6th Edition, Addison-Wesley, by McFadden, Hoffer, and Prescott. Prerequisite: IST 311 Last Day to Drop: 5/24 (without "W" grade) or 6/13 (with "W" grade). Supplies: Two DSHD (1.44 MB) floppy diskettes. Course Grade: Examinations Assignments 80% 20% Missed Examination: Only if the instructor is notified and agrees in advance of the exam due to an extenuating circumstance will a make-up be given. Written verification of any claim is required. Examinations and Assignments: All assignments must be individually and independently completed and must represent the effort of the student turning in the assignment. Late assignments will receive substantial deductions. Missing assignments will receive substantial deduction for the final grade.
