Readmission for Students in Good Standing
If you left Rutgers University in Good Standing (ie. not Dismissed), and you wish to return to RU
to pursue Engineering, please submit an Application for Readmission.
If you wish to return to Rutgers to pursue a non-engineering major, you should apply directly to
the school in which you are interested.
Application for Previously Enrolled Students.
Readmission for Dismissed Students
Under normal circumstances when students have been dismissed from the School of
Engineering (SoE) for academic reasons, they must successfully complete 15 – 24 credits of
relevant coursework (math, science, engineering) at another institution with B's and better
before submitting an application for readmission.
For readmission to an engineering major, courses must be math, science or engineering directly relevant to your major. For readmission into a non-engineering program in the School of
Engineering (to prepare for transfer out of the School of Eng'g), any degree credit courses are
acceptable (note: Expository Writing, 01:355:101 must be completed before transfer to the
School of Arts and Sciences - SAS).
It also may be possible for those interested in non-engineering studies to apply directly into SAS
or other RU School if the cumulative gpa is above 2.0.
Application for Previously Enrolled Students.
Please fill out an Application for Readmission and have Official Transcripts sent from the
external institution to our office directly: Office of Academic Affairs, EN-B100 Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey 98 Brett Road Piscataway, NJ 08854.
Summer Readmission.
In some cases, it may be possible for dismissed students to earn readmission by completing at
least two courses (at least 6 total credits) during the Rutgers Summer Session. For readmission
to an engineering major, courses must be math, science or engineering - directly relevant to
your major. For readmission for a non-engineering program to prepare for transfer, any degree
credit courses are acceptable (note: Expository Writing, 01:355:101 must be completed before
transfer).
To be eligible for consideration for readmission based on Rutgers summer courses only,
students must complete at least two courses (totalling 6 credits at least) and earn grades of “B”
or better in each, and their cumulative grade point averages at the end of the summer must be
at least:
1.600 cumulative GPA if it is based on 1 – 30 credits 1.800 cumulative GPA if it is based on 31
– 60 credits 2.000 cumulative GPA if it is based on more than 60 credits.
Futhermore, for students with more than 60 credits in the cumulative GPA, the major GPA
(average of all “M” prefix courses) must be at least 1.900 prior to readmission if an engineering
major is requested.
For students who were dismissed from the preceding spring semester, the application for
readmission must be submitted no later than July 1st to be considered for fall readmission. To
be valid, courses must be approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Decisions will
be issued upon review of summer grades.
