Procedures in Media Center and Computer Lab Request for Service: Technology: Please complete a “Request for Technology Service” form in the computer lab if you have technology issues with your computer, printer, SmartBoard, etc. Mrs. Harrell will notify Mr. John Smith if his assistance is required. Mr. Smith will meet with Mrs. Harrell when he arrives at our school. Therefore, he will be notified if his assistance is needed in the classrooms. Media Center: Please complete a “Request for Media Service” in the media center if you need sets of books pulled for projects or other media such as videos, etc. Mrs. Askew will assist you as soon as she can. Checking out Videos/DVDs: When you want to borrow a video/dvd, please adhere to Gates County Schools Video/DVD policy. There is a red folder with request forms on the front bookshelf of the media center (beneath the bulletin board). Complete the form, have it approved by Mrs. Ward, and she will return the completed form to the media specialist. Checking out teacher resources and periodicals: When you want to borrow teacher resources such as magazines, puppet/storybook kits, paperback book/cassette tape sets, Leapfrog books from the media center, you will need to check them out just as you would a regular book. If they have not been cataloged, barcodes will be placed on them as they are borrowed. When you are ready to return them, just place them in the bookdrop where you see the sign “Return Materials Here.” Checking out teacher resources from the Parent Resource Center: When you want to borrow materials from the Parent Resource Center, you will need to check them out just as you would a regular book. If there is not a volunteer in the PRC, please bring the materials to the media center. If they have not been cataloged, barcodes will be placed on them as they are borrowed. Checking out cameras, SmartBoards, projectors, or other equipment: When you need a SmartBoard/projector, please sign up for them on the calendar in the computer lab. Use pencil so that it can be erased if there’s a change in plans. When you need a camera, please ask Mrs. Wanda Harrell for the camera. Then, bring the camera to the media center so that it can be scanned into the Media Center computer. Overhead Projector Lamps: When your overhead projector lamp needs to be replaced, please use a paper towel and bring the lamp to the lab so that we can replace it with the correct lamp. When replacing the lamp in your projector, use a paper towel to hold the lamp. Oils from your hands will cause the lamp to deteriorate much faster. Always let the overhead projector cool down before cutting it off or moving the projector. This will prevent the lamp from burning out. Reserving Computer Lab and/or Media Center: When you need to schedule time in the computer lab or media center, sign up on the calendar in the respective area. Use pencil so that it can be erased if there’s a change in plans. NOTE: Computer #16 is designated for TEACHER USE ONLY. The LCD projector is already attached to Computer #16. Please do not use the Lab Admin computer. That computer is for the Computer Lab Administrator’s use only. Removal of Technology Equipment: BEFORE asking our custodial staff to remove equipment from your room such as computers, overhead projectors, etc., please speak with Mrs. Harrell or Mrs. Askew. We will assess and evaluate the equipment’s performance. If the equipment is not in good working condition, we will ask the custodial staff to remove the equipment. (FYI: We have to keep up with equipment for an Annual Media and Technology Report). Appropriate Use of Resources Follow the Gates County Employee Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources Policy.
