American Indian College Fund Position Description Job Details Job Title: FLSA: Position Type: Interview Group: Reports To: Location: Date Modified: Major Gifts Associate Nonexempt Full-time Regional Development Executives Assistant Development Director Denver, CO May 22, 2014 Description This position exists to identify, research and schedule meetings with high-potential donor prospects and to assist with in-person cultivation/stewardship of existing mid-level donors ($1,000 - $5,000) with high potential and capacity. This position is critical in the moves management process through research and engagement of those individuals with the greatest capacity and interest. By creating the opportunity for in-person engagement, both individually and in group settings, the organization is poised to increase charitable giving, thereby expanding its capacity to disburse monies for scholarships. This position plays a key role in meeting the College Fund’s strategic initiatives to increase revenue and raise awareness of the organization among a core group of supporters. The organization’s values are the cornerstone for conversations with new donors. Respect, Reciprocity, Relationships, Responsibility and Reasoning could be inserted into a textbook detailing successful ways to identify, qualify and achieve person to person contact with potential major donors. The incumbent could not succeed if he/she were to misrepresent these values to philanthropic champions. Essential Job Functions 1. Manages successful prospect research for multiple fundraising portfolios a. Identifies high potential donor prospects that may have an interest in supporting the College Fund b. Mines database to identify existing donors by capacity, interest and linkage for moves management strategies c. Researches appropriate contacts for institutional donors d. Provides a brief abstract of donor prospect and meeting contact(s) e. Successfully reaches prospecting goal 2. Develops “in-person” engagement strategies for mid and high-level donors, including a. Plans and invites individuals to community-based educational “events” for mid and highlevel donors b. Schedules face-to-face individual meetings c. Reaches out to all qualified donors in prospect list through appropriate avenues d. Appropriately follows up with every donor prospect 1 e. Provides meeting documents for development officers f. Consistently develops new scheduling strategies to reach meeting goals 3. Captures all prospecting and scheduling activities in donor database a. Consistently marks donor profiles to demonstrate prospecting potential b. Enters each activity in donor database associated with cultivation/stewardship strategies 4. Develops innovative solutions and ideas to optimize fundraising potential a. Consistently creates new prospecting and engagement strategies b. Shares innovative ideas with other development associates and resource development team members Job Requirements Competencies • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook • Knowledge of donor relational database software • Solid knowledge of donor relational database software is essential • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Understanding of the principles of prospect research • Success in scheduling appointments • Knowledge of or interest in learning about American Indian education • Understanding of fundraising process and structure Education/ Experience Bachelor’s degree. 2+ years of identifying clients and customers and scheduling meetings preferred Work Environment and Physical Activities Frequent keyboarding Public speaking Travel up to 25%.
