This task is to be completed in two parts.

Part 1 - will involve a written section, completed by you the candidate, online.

Part 2 - will be completed by the assessor via a series of observations and questions done in conjunction with other ongoing activities and tasks.

Part 2

At Mandurah Senior College we have a clearly developed policy for the evacuation of buildings in the event of an emergency situation. It is important that you make yourself aware of the procedure should it need to be implemented.

View the power point titled ‘Evacuation Organisation and Procedure.’ Then answer the following questions. This can be located on the shared drive, in the get work folder. Then go to the Photography folder where you should find the latest version. Ask the teacher if you cannot locate it.

The Hat System

1. Three different coloured hats are used to identify different wardens and their level of responsibility. a. List the three colours and identify their area/s of responsibility. b. Of the 3 warden types, which warden might you first come into contact with if there was an emergency?

2. As well as a coloured hat, what else do the red and yellow wardens wear to help clearly identify themselves to others?

During an Evacuation

3. If you hear a warning alarm, do you always need to evacuate?

4. If you hear a warning alarm and a clear voice over, do you need to evacuate?

5. During an emergency you are required to leave the teaching and learning areas and then reassemble at a designated ‘Muster Point’. Where is the ‘Muster Point’ for Mandurah Senior College students and staff?

8. If an evacuation alarm sounds with a clear voice over in a specific area, do teachers, staff and/or students who are not in classes have to leave the area and report to the muster point or can they just ignore the call to evacuate?

What is the procedure once the all clear is given?

6. When evacuating an area what should you take with you, how should you proceed and what is the procedure once you have arrived at the ‘Muster Point’?

7. During what circumstance/s would the normal evacuation procedure change and why?

Identification and Reporting of Hazards

10. Identify a potential hazard that currently exists in the photography lab. Take a photograph of it, insert this into your document. Clearly outline what the hazard is, how it can be resolved to make the area safe and who you should report the problem to.

14. Your boss asks you if you could look at a sink at work that is not draining properly and hands you a container of ‘Drano’ crystals (a readily available product for clearing a blocked drain). a. What protective clothing should you have on when using this product? b. Is it flammable? c. What are the potential symptoms that could arise from an acute over exposure to this product on the skin, eyes or by ingestion (swallowing it)? d. Make a list of the first aid procedures for following i) ii) iii) you get the product in your eye you wipe you face and discover that you have transferred some of the product onto you skin and it is beginning to burn.

Whilst using the product you can smell the fumes and begin to feel unwell.
