GENERAL PE II COURSE SYLLABUS

Students will participate in sports activities which will foster the development of motor skills, physical fitness, emotional strength, maturity, values, healthful decisions making, and the pursuit of lifelong health and fitness.

UNITS AND CORRESPONDING OBJECTIVES:

In each of the following units, students will apply rules and strategies of each sport or activity for an intermediate or advanced level.

A.

Volleyball: The student will execute the basic hits of volleyball and learn how to rotate and properly play the sport

B.

Floor Hockey: The student will learn how to use the stick to safely manipulate the puck and to work with teammates to advance the puck.

C.

Flag Football: The students will execute throwing and catching a football and demonstrate how to run the proper passing routes.

D.

Softball: The student will learn how to catch and throw a softball. They will learn proper techniques of fielding and batting.

E.

Basketball: The students will execute shooting a foul shot, a lay-up, and a jump shot. The student will also be able to dribble a ball using both right and left hands while demonstrating mobility and coordination

EVALUATIONS:

Final grade will be obtained based upon the following criteria:

60%=Daily participation and dressing out, student will receive 6 points per day

30%=Skill and written unit tests

10%= Final Exam

ATTENDANCE/MAKE-UP POLICY

Absences are treated as dress cuts, but absences can be made up where dress cuts cannot.

Refer to the RHS Physical Education Policies and Procedures to determine proper procedure for make-up work.

It is the responsibility of the student to obtain any missed work. Students have five school days to complete any missed assignments. I will not ask any student about missed assignments. MAKE UP WORK IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT.

Any missed work that is not made up will be recorded as a zero.

RECOVERY : If a student is failing the class due to poor performance on tests or quizzes, the student will have the opportunity to retake them.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: All students will be expected to adhere to the

Riverwood High School policies dealing with academic integrity (NO lying, cheating, or stealing).
