Panem
Panem (the former North America) consists of the capitol city, also called The Capitol
(located in the Rocky Mountains) and its 13 districts (although #13 has been
destroyed). Try to locate where the capitol and each of the districts might be located
based on its industry. Some like #12 (coal mining in the Appalachian Mountains) may
be easy, other may be more difficult.
Steps:
1. Draw the outline of each district
2. Pick a color for each district that corresponds with the industry they have there.
EX: #12 coal mining= gray
3. Make a key that shows which color represents which district
4. Pick a symbol for each district
EX: #12 coal mining= mining pick
5. Draw the symbol inside the outline and color it the color you chose.
6. Draw a circle to represent The Capitol and label it.
District 12
District 12 is where Katniss and Peeta are from. Based on clues from the text draw a
map of District 12 and include the following locations. Your map does not need to be
colored, but it does need to be labled.
1. The Seam
a. Katniss’s house
b. Gale’s house
c. The fence and the forest
2. The Merchant Section
a. The mayor’s house
b. Peeta’s house
3. The Hob
4. Victor’s Village
The Arena
The arena is where the tributes of The Hunger Games battle to become the sole victor.
The author goes into great detail explaining different areas of the arena. Based on
clues from the text draw a map of the arena and include the following locations.
the cornucopia
the lake
the wheat field
the forest
the stream and ponds
the rocky area with caves
the area where fireballs occurred
