The Hunger Games Final—Tic-Tac-Toe Menu COMPLETION DATE=Tuesday November 10th Name: Class Period: Below, you’ll see nine options. You will need to choose and complete three of them for your final. Your three selections need to form a Tic-Tac-Toe design—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. You may complete one at a time and turn them in when you’re done, or work on them all at the same time, and turn them in as a group. All three are due by Tuesday, November 10th, 2009. You will get more information about each activity tomorrow. In the meantime, figure out which three you’d like to do, and get started by using the “Starting Points” on the back of this sheet. 1. Vocabulary Focus: 2. Movie Poster: 3. Drawing: Using a visual that I’ll provide you with, develop a better understanding of 10 of the 37 vocabulary words from the novel. Create a movie poster for The Hunger Games. This should include enough information about the plot to make us want to see it. Choose your favorite chapter from the novel, and draw a comic book strip that illustrates the actions and events from that chapter. 4. Board Game: 5. Test: Create a board game for The Hunger Games that captures the main events and obstacles found in the arena (include game pieces, a rule book etc.) Take the multiple-choice, open-book final over The Hunger Games. There are 40 questions on the test. Create a travel brochure, complete with descriptions and visuals, that encourages people to vacation at the Capitol to enjoy all the fantastic things there. 7. Character Focus: Using a Venn diagram that I’ll provide you with, compare and contrast our society in the U.S. today to the futuristic country of Panem found in our novel. Correctly use 15 of our 37 vocabulary words in a short creative story. The story should be about two pages long. Using a Venn diagram that I’ll provide you with, compare and contrast Katniss with yourself. Then, write up a page long biography and description of Katniss. 6. Vocabulary Focus …… The 10 words you’ll focus on will all be adjectives. Of the 37 words we studied, 21 are adjectives. Select 10 of those 21 that you’d like to study. Choose words you like! 2. Movie Poster ………… You’ll need to select which images from The Hunger Games to incorporate into your Movie Poster. In addition, you should know enough about the characters to be able to visualize what they look like, so you can select current celebrities to play the parts. 3. Drawing ……………… Choose your favorite chapter, and jot down at least eight main events and actions from that chapter. 4. Board Game ..………… Starting at Chapter 11 (page 148) and going to the end of the book, gather a list of all events and obstacles that are found in the arena. These might include lack of food, tracker jackers, crazy tributes, etc. 5. Novel Test …………… If you have not yet finished the book, you need to do that before attempting this final. 6. Travel Brochure ……… Begin jotting down the benefits of living in the Capitol. The whole point of a travel brochure is to promote the positive aspects and ignore the negative ones. Persuade people to visit. Write down all the positive things about the Capitol that you can remember (and use the book). 7. Compare/Contrast …… Gather as much information about Panem that you can, including the type of government, punishments, laws, etc. Then, think about our U.S. society today. How are the two similar? How are they different? 8. Creative Story …………You will be correctly using all nine of the verbs, and then six other words of your choosing, in a 2-page imaginative story. Plan your story and choose your words. 9. Character Focus ……… Begin recalling and finding as much information about Katniss as you can. What does she look like? What are her strengths? Weaknesses? Opinions? What is her family like? What do her actions in the arena say about her as a person?
