Setting: Future, post-apocalyptic nation of coal-rich Panem in North America
Speaker/Protagonist/Narrator: 16 year old Katniss Everdeen
The Hunger Games: an annual event in which one boy and one girl, aged 12-18
from, each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by the
lottery to compete in a televised battle to their deaths. It is a form of
punishment as result of a past rebellion against the Capitol by the surrounding
districts.
The Capitol: a highly advanced wealthy metropolis (city), who exercises
political control over the rest of the nations and exploits them for cheap
labour.
