Chapter 1
Character
Piggy
“The fat boy” with glasses “ass-mar” his parents are dead! So he lived with his aunt!
People on his old school called him piggy. But he doesn’t want Ralph to tell the others
his nickname is piggy though Ralph does it anyway.
Ralph- “the faired hair boy” his father is in the navy and is in the war. Ralph says his
father will come rescue them. Ralph is elected Chief he’s Twelve. He initially blows the
counch. He goes up the mountain with jack and Simon.
Jack-“Freckles and red hair” the leader of the choir at the begging he has red hair. He
wants to be chief but isn’t elected. Ralph appoints him leader of the hunters he has a knife
first to kill pig!
Simon- he climbs a mountain with jack and Ralph he faints easily he has black hair.
Little uns- the boys name for younger boys.
Big uns- the boys names for the older boys.
Sam and Eric-SAmneric. The twins.
Character Relationships
Ralph and Piggy- piggy looks up to Ralph and recognized his leadership ability he wants
attention from Ralph piggy is clingy Ralph doesn’t pay much attention.
Ralph and Jack- there’s tension between them because jack wants to be chief they seem
to make peace as they go up the mountain.
Jack and piggy-jack hates piggy while piggy doesn’t trust jack!
Symbols and MotifsThe conch symbolizes when the boys can speak and nobody else can speak when
somebody else has the conch…
Piggy’s glasses-help start the signal fire.
Clothing- the choir are still wearing their show gowns.
CHAPTER 2
Characters
Mulberry boy –the boy with a mulberry colored birthmark on the side of his face claims
he saw a monster in the woods.
Maurice- a bigun who becomes one of jacks hunters and following on the raids to Ralphs
camp.
Ralph- says that his daddy will be the one to rescue them.
Character relationshipsRalph and Piggy-Piggy suggest they build a signal fire Ralph boosts the idea so they do
it.
Ralph and Jack-Ralph tells jack that he needs to create an army of hunters
Piggy and Jack- the boys are still not liking each other!
Symbols and motifsBeastie-Mulberry boy comes to the assembly and wants to talk about the snake thing in
the woods.
The Creepers-is the long vine plant that mulberry says is the beastie and scares him.
chapter 3
Characters
Phil-a littlun who speaks about fear of the beast at night they soon find out he is sleep
walking through the forest.
symbols and motifsknife-jack’s weapon used to stab into trees and later cut pigs throats!
shelters-built at Ralph’s insistence as a home for the littluns!
candle buds-a certain white flower on the island to which Simon gives a name.
character relationshipsRalph and Simon- while the boys are out hunting Simon and Ralph are back on the beach
building the shelters.
Chapter 4
characterHenery- a littlun who, with Percival and Johnny, is attacked with rocks by Roger and
Maurice while they are building sand castles.
Johnny- he is the first boy to reach the beach on the first day he is 6 years. Johnny is
torment by Roger and Maurice.
Character relationshipsJohnny and Henery- they build sand castles on the beach then et rocks thrown at them by
Maurice and Roger!
Maurice and Roger- throw rocks at the littluns building sand castles and destroy their
sand castles!
Symbols and Motifssand castles-built by the littluns but then Roger and Maurice throw rocks at them and
destroy the sand castles.
Chapter 5
Percival Wemys Madison- a littlun would always give a full introduction of himself!
Symbols and motifs- original site for the signal fire. as the myth of the beast grows this is
the location where it is thought to inhabit.
Chapter 6
Symbols and motifspilots body- a pilots who plane crashed on the island after being shot down in an air
battle.
castle rock-the fort Jack adopts as the base for his tribe.
Chapter 7
charactersRobert- the is another choirboy and another follower to Jack.
Relationships Ralph and piggy-Ralph and Piggy re looking for the beast in the air.
Ralph and jack-Ralph and Jack are searching for the pig. Then Ralph sees a pig
and tries to kill the pig. They torment the pig until the pig finally dies.
Piggy anf jack-they still don’t like each other,
Chapter 8
Character relationshipsRalph ad piggy: They are both glad that Jack is gone.
Ralph and Jack: They get into a huge argument, so Jack decides to leave the group, and
make his own “society.”
Piggy and Jack: He is finally relieved that Jack is gone.
Meat: meat is when Jack and his followers leave the group and they go and kill the
pig.
Lord of the Flies: The place where Simon disappears when he goes into the woods;
also the place where Jack and his followers chase the sow into.
Chapter 9
Character Relationships
Ralph ad Piggy-things between them are much better since jack is gone.
Ralph and jack- don’t speak to each other anymore because jack isn’t there anymore.
Piggy and Jack-piggy is happy because jack is not coming back.
Setting’s in this chapter
Forest-the place were Simon hears the beast inside him.
Chapter 10
Character Relationships:
Ralph and Piggy: They go up to Jack’s “society” to see that the “beast” is just a dead,
rotting body.
Ralph and Jack: Ralph and jack talk about some things
Piggy and Jack: they have nothing to talk about
Settings in this chapter:
Mountain- Ralph and his followers go visit jack and his followers.
Chapter 11
Character Relationships:
Ralph and Piggy: they are all mad that jack stole piggy’s glasses.
Ralph and Jack: Ralph is mad At jack for taking piggy’s glasses to start a fire.
Piggy and Jack: is really mad at jack for stealing his glasses.
Settings in this chapter:
Beach: Ralph has another assembly for the loss of piggy’s glasses
Chapter 12
Character Relationships:
Ralph and Piggy: Ralph is upset that piggy died.
Ralph and Jack: they start to become boys again
Piggy an Jack: jack is kind of upset that piggy is dead..
Settings in this chapter:
Beach/lagoon: the place were they are rescued by a naval officer.
