Ralph is popular with the majority of boys and is elected chief. He is indifferent to Piggy. At the beginning, he has confidence in others. At the end of the novel, this confidence has disappeared. Ralph wishes adults were present; he can see the need for adult supervision. Becomes an outcast. He now appreciates Piggy’s wisdom. Ralph realizes that the beast is within.
