The recent May sweeps show that WALA’s news delivered the highest television ratings for the morning, early evening and late news time periods. “This is a very competitive business,” said Matt Pumo, Vice President and General Manager for WALA and WBPG. “To take the lead in one or two of our newscasts would have been an accomplishment. According to Nielsen Media Research for May 2007, FOX10’s morning news averaged a 3.0 rating. WKRG and WEAR’s morning news broadcasts averaged 2.7 and 2.6 respectively. At 5pm, FOX10 News earned a 4.1 rating. WEAR and WPMI averaged 3.6 and 2.7 for their local 5pm newscasts. For late news, FOX10 News at 9pm received a 5.8 rating. WKRG and WPMI averaged 4.1 and 3.7 ratings for their 10pm newscasts.
