ROY H JOHNSON
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
LADS TO LEADERS & LEADERETTES
Roy Johnson has been preaching for thirty five years, eighteen at Campbell Springs
Church of Christ in Ashland, AL and currently preaches and serves as an Elder for
the Hollins Church of Christ in Hollins, Alabama. He served as an Elder at the Grant
Church of Christ in Grant, Alabama for more than 2 years while his family resided
there. Roy formerly was a top level Executive for the Boy Scouts of America for
twenty-four years before taking on the role as Executive Director of Lads to Leaders
in January, 2003. Prior to returning to Alabama to take on the position with Lads to
Leaders, Roy was the Scout Executive in Butler, PA near Pittsburgh for three years.
Roy comes from a long line of Church leaders. His great grandfather was one of the
founding members of the Hollins Church of Christ in the early 1900’s. Roy’s
grandfather was an Elder and had the distinction of having every child; grandchild
and great grandchild become a member of the Church. Roy’s father served as an
Elder, his brother is an Elder, and sister is married to a preacher.
Roy is a graduate of Alabama Christian College, Auburn University, and the National
Executive Institute, a BSA school. He is certified in non profit financial management
and camp management. He had served on several local and national boards and
committees. President George W Bush presented him with a national leadership
award.
In his spare time, Roy enjoys operating the family cattle farm, restoring tractors and
working with the Hollins Volunteer Fire Dept. He lives the simple life on property that
his forefathers homesteaded. His church members and neighbors convinced him to
run for county commissioner. He won by a landslide.
He has been married to the former Brenda Hurt for thirty years and they have three
sons, Bryan, 25, Ben, 21 and Brad, 15. Bryan attended Faulkner University in
Montgomery, AL and is an Eagle Scout. Bryan is married to the former Adrienne
Ray. He leads songs and teaches Bible class. Ben is a freshmen Bible Major at
Faulkner University, who was picked to be on the Vanguard team. This Vanguard
team is a group of 4 special young preachers who have been selected to represent
the school by preaching for congregation/lectureships, and youth rallies across the
south. Brad attends Clay County High School in Alabama. Ben is involved with
church activities, preaching, Lads to Leaders and the Young Alabama Farmers
Federation. Brad is an honor student involved with church activities, Lads to
Leaders, Scholars Bowl, and the Duke Talent program.
