OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to: 1) Mention the part of Uganda where Lake Victoria lies 2) Name the ports that are found on lake Victoria 3) State the activities carried out along that lake 4) Identify the importance of Lake Victoria to the people who live around it 5) Draw a map of Uganda and locate Lake Victoria and its ports METHODS Explanation, group discussion, guided discovery, question and answer methods. Learning aids: atlases, chart showing, Lake Victoria and its ports. CONTENT Introductory Phase Pupils will answer some oral questions on the previous lesson. e.g. 1) What are physical features? Expected answer; they are natural landforms that can easily be seen. 2) Name any two physical features you know. Expected answers: Lakes Rivers, mountains plateau rift valley. 3) Mention any three lakes found in Uganda. Expected answers: Lakes Albert, Edward, Kyoga, Victoria, George. 4) What type of physical feature covers the biggest part of Uganda? Expected answer: the plateau Experiencing Phase Through explanation, guided discovery, group discussion question and answer methods pupils will be taught about Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Uganda, East Africa and Africa It was named by the British explorer J H.Speke in 1859after the queen of England Its original name was Nalubale. Lake Victoria shared by the three East African countries namely Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. The lake lies in the central plateau Uganda. It is one of the Uganda’s Major fishing grounds and it provides means of transport to the three countries of East Africa through its important ports. However, there are other smaller landing sites along the shores.
