Retreat packages may include: Coca-Cola product Funding for food and supplies Retreat supplies Off-campus teambuilding/leadership experience NEW: We have added a location to the application. ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCEMENTS Register Now for African American Farewell Celebration 2008 The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), The Ohio Union, Coca-Cola, and the Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center will sponsor the 16th Annual African American Farewell Celebration to acknowledge and to celebrate those students graduating between Fall 2007 through Summer 2008. The event will include a personalized graduation ceremony, keynote speaker, music, and a dinner reception. Family and friends are welcome to attend at no cost. This African American Farewell Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 4:00 p.m., in Independence Hall, room 100. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony at The Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center. Registration forms are available online or at the information desk at The Ohio Union (at Ohio Stadium). To be included in the printed program, forms must be turned in by May 16th, 2008. FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS An adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's novel of the same name. The film details a whacky search for the "American Dream", by Thompson and his crazed, Samoan lawyer. Fueled by the massive amount of drugs they purchased with an advance from a magazine to cover a sporting event in Vegas; they set out in the Red Shark. Encountering police, reporters, gamblers, racers, and hitchhikers, they search for some undefinable thing know only as the "American Dream" and find fear, loathing and hilarious adventures into the dementia of the modern American West. STUDIO 35 is Located at 3055 Indianola Ave. Along with being a large movie theater it also a bar and restaurant serving draft beer, pizza, salad, and subs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Do You See Orange? We want to see 2,500 students, or 5% of the student body, wearing bright orange t-shirts that say "Orphan" on them on campus on April 9 and 10! Would your organization like to partner with us? InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is sponsoring a Do You See Orange campaign in order to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS pandemic, specifically about the fact that 5% of children in sub-Saharan Africa have lost one or both parents to AIDS. By getting 5% of our students to wear the t-shirts, we will be staging a graphic representation of the impact that HIV/AIDS is having on our generation and our world. We are selling the t-shirts at cost for $5. Each year student leaders are chosen to represent The Ohio State University as members of the Homecoming Court. These individuals are selected by a judging panel consisting of staff, faculty, and notable alumni. The court members are chosen based on their ability to exemplify the qualities of leadership, spirit, integrity, and achievement through their contributions and involvement at The Ohio State University. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2008 to the Information Center at Ohio Union (Ohio Stadium, between gates 22 and 24). Four unstapled copies of the entire application must be turned in. Applications not meeting this requirement will not be considered. Morgan Spurlock’s lecture and book signing will be on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Weigel Hall Auditorium. Spurlock is the Academy Award-nominated director of Super Size Me, the creator and producer of the reality television series 30 Days, and author of Don’t Eat this Book. Spurlock will talk about his experiences as a documentary filmmaker and about the 30 Days episode “Minimum Wage”—set in Columbus—where he tries to survive for 30 days on $5.15 an hour. Tickets to this event will be available to first year students beginning Thursday, March 27 th and to the campus community and general public on Thursday, April 3rd. For more information please visit www.fye.osu.edu/speaker.html. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Toyota Grand Prix of Swimming Comes to OSU This exciting event will bring to campus more than 700 athletes, including several international teams, and some of the most talented swimmers in the U.S. The Toyota Grand Prix at The Ohio State University begins on Friday, April 4 with prelim sessions beginning at 9 a.m. ET each day and finals scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. All-Session Passes are available for $45. Tickets for prelims are $8, and finals tickets are $12. All tickets include heat sheets (swimmer lists by event). Groups will be asked to assist in Post-Event Cleanup of the Arena Seating Bowl. Cleanups generally take about 3-4 hours and begin directly after the event. Groups must submit a Contact Name (one person) & Email Address, Mailing Address, Contact Phone Number and the Group’s Tax Exempt (EIN) Number. Groups must have at least 10 people. Answer calls of support from our viewers at our first live on-air fundraiser in our studios at WOSU@COSI the evening of Saturday, March 15. Pizza and beverages will be provided. Approximately 15 volunteers are needed from 7pm-midnight (please note that end time is flexible depending on how many calls come in). Parking vouchers will be supplied by WOSU. The 13.1-mile course passes through many unique Columbus neighborhoods – including the University District on Neil, College and Woodruff avenues, past Ohio Stadium and then down High Street to the Short North. Explore Columbus has negotiated a $10 discount for the half marathon and $ 5 discount for the 5K. It takes hundreds of volunteers – and you can help.
