MID WILTS YOUTH & MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE MATCH REPORTS UNDER 9 BLUE DIVISION Trowbridge Wanderers A took a narrow 1-0 at the break against visitors Melksham Town Youth Saints following a closely fought first half. Both sides struggled to make any head way in the adverse weather conditions but managed a goal a piece finishing the game at 2-1 to Wanderers. Sebastian Hounsell and Jack Beavan scored for Wanderers. UNDER 9 ORANGE DIVISION Melksham Town Youth Robins gained their first point of this campaign with an excellent team performance against Chippenham Town Youth. Melksham had the wind at their backs and went on the attack, hitting the post through Jake Palmer but were denied by some fine saves from the Chippenham keeper. Their hard work finally paid off mid-way through the half when Keiron Pearce latched onto a through ball to slot home giving the home side a 1-0 advantage. Chippenham came into the game more after the break but were thwarted by some fine and brave defending. Melksham soaked up the pressure and looked dangerous on the counter attack but eventually Chippenham found their way through and scored an equaliser just minutes from the final whistle with a fine run down the left wing before slotting home. Overall, a great effort by both teams in very difficult conditions. UNDER 10 BLUE DIVISION Club mates Trowbridge Town A hosted Trowbridge Town B at the weekend in a nail biting game which could have gone either way. Town A edged ahead in the first half with a goal from Ben Philips but a second half shot from Thomas Caldicott cancelled out their advantage for a 1-1 final score. Another close encounter saw Warminster Highbury take all three points with a 3-2 win away against Worton & Cheverell Badgers. Joe Hardy (2) and Luke Woods scored for Highbury. UNDER 10 GREEN DIVISION With many games already postponed over weekend it was some concern that the match between home side AFC Corsham Leopards and Melksham Town Youth Saints may also be postponed. However, the weather turned during the night producing a reasonably dry pitch and sunshine. Melksham started nervously and seemed to be getting to the ball second every time. Defenders Adam Meakin and Mahirul Islam fought hard to keep out Corsham and barring a few nervous moments did so admirably. The game continued with Corsham taking advantage of a downhill slope and wind at their backs to keep up the pressure. A long distance lob from around thirty yards managed to beat the Melksham keeper. Melksham were knocked by the goal but continued to push and created some great opportunities, hitting the post twice but several great efforts by the Corsham keeper kept out Sam Tallis and Jack Eglin until the half time whistle. Melksham's half time team talk seemed to work, with the players working much better as a team and closing down the opposition well. The change of positions also seemed to work with Ben, Jack and Zac Hillier putting together some great passes and creating many opportunities. With just five minutes gone in the second half pressure from Melksham forced a corner which was struck perfectly by Ben to connect with Zac at the far post and a superb header across the goal line into the corner. Melksham were more in control now but were still susceptible on the break, allowing players to get in behind them leaving keeper Josh Long one on one on two occasions. As usual Josh dealt with the situation admirably coming out and smothering the ball. Twelve minutes in to the second half Mahirul picked up the ball in midfield went around three players and laid a ball off to Zac who stepped round another player and poked it into net leaving the keeper no chance. A special mention goes to Corsham defender Bradley for an outstanding performance throughout the game.
