

Verdict Research is a leading authority on retailing and publishes unrivalled independent
analysis of the industry. An exciting opportunity has arisen within Verdict to join us as a Senior
Consultant, focused on working with a well established client base working on retail-related
projects.
This role will specifically:
a) Selling of consulting services
With other members of the consulting team you will attend meetings with clients and
potential clients in order to understand their requirements and sell them consulting
services.
b) Writing proposals
You will put together written proposals for clients to demonstrate how we are able to
meet their requirements. This involves detailing the type of information we will provide,
together with costs and timescales. You will be capable of selecting appropriate
methodologies and putting together an integrated and structured research
programme to deliver on the client’s needs and to Verdict’s budgetary and resource
requirements.
c) Research for projects
You will undertake research for projects including: analysis of data from audits,
researching retail sectors in depth using government data, assorted trade body
information, libraries and Verdict's own database and press files; researching individual
retail companies’ financial history, store portfolio, market position, store appearance,
product offer and pricing.
d) Analysis for projects
You will undertake appropriate analysis for the broad range of projects Verdict is
assigned. This may include, forecasting, market modelling, consumer segmentation,
share analysis and/or putting together strategic recommendations for clients.
e) Managing projects
You will take on a management role by planning and monitoring all projects for which
you are assigned responsibility. This involves clearly understanding the requirements of
the client, taking ownership of and responsibility for fully satisfying these requirements
and planning, monitoring and controlling all aspects of the project. You will also be
required to manage project resources (internal and third party) and project finances
to ensure delivery within agreed budgets.
f)
Presentations
Using existing data and information from a variety of sources you will put together retail
presentations which communicate, in an effective way, the most important messages
of the topic under consideration. You will also be able to deliver credible presentations
to external audiences and answer and address their questions.
g) Retail knowledge
Through internal discussions, liaising and communicating with all Verdict department
you will contribute to the company’s knowledge of retailing and consumers. Your own
knowledge will enhance that of the company’s existing store of analysis.
h)
Administration
You will take on responsibility for some of the day-to-day administration of the division.
This may include, budgetary analysis, invoicing and financial administration and
resource allocation and planning.
Skills and experience
This is an excellent opportunity for someone keen on undertaking strong challenges and who
wants to be noticed and progress. A confident, articulate and outgoing personality is
necessary as is the ability to think clearly and analytically. A good working knowledge of
Microsoft Office products (mainly Word, Excel and Powerpoint) is an essential. A good
understanding of retailing and consumers is important.
