First Friday Eucharistic Adoration
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is a form of Eucharistic devotion that is widespread in the Church. On March 2, 2006, Pope
Benedict XVI in his meeting with members of the Roman clergy, said: “Thanks be to God that after the Council, after a period in
which the sense of Eucharistic Adoration was somewhat lacking, the joy of this adoration was reborn everywhere in the Church, as
we saw and heard at the Synod on the Eucharist. Eucharistic Adoration means entering the depths of our hearts in communion
with the Lord, who makes himself bodily present in the Eucharist. In the monstrance, he always entrusts himself to us and asks us
to be united with his Presence, with his risen Body."
The Eucharist is a sacrament giving us the real body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus, the Son of God. Although it does not look
like the body and blood of Jesus we see on a crucifix, His Real Presence is hidden within the appearance of a small white
consecrated host. This is a great mystery, something we cannot fully understand.
Every year of his pontificate, Pope John Paul II has written a pastoral letter about the Holy
Eucharist to all the bishops and priests of the church. He asked for a return to the reverence and
traditions of the past, especially for the adoration of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. The Holy
Father reinforced his words with action. In 1991, Pope John Paul began perpetual adoration of the
Eucharist in St. Peter Basilica in Rome. The Holy Father says: “The Church and the world have
a great need of Eucharistic worship.”
A few years ago at the International Eucharistic Congress in Spain, the Holy Father, in his remarks
at the opening of the Congress, thanked all the parishes and people who had promoted adoration of
the Eucharist in preparation for the International Eucharistic Congress. Then he prayed that such
perpetual exposition and adoration of the Eucharist would be established in every Catholic Church
throughout the world.
We believe that Jesus gave us His own body and blood in the special sacrament we call the Holy Eucharist. We believe that Jesus
is really present in this sacrament! For us, the Holy Eucharist is not just a symbol. It is not just a memory. It is not just a promise. It
is really Jesus Christ. It is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, which we celebrate this weekend. The Holy Eucharist is not some
‘thing.’ It is some ‘one.’ It is Jesus, our Lord and our God. This is what we mean by the Catholic Doctrine of the Real Presence of
Christ in the Eucharist. This is why we call the Holy Eucharist "the Blessed Sacrament." Jesus chose this very special way to
remain here with us. It was not just an empty promise when Jesus said, "I will be with you all days, even to the end of the world."
Jesus himself, your best friend, invites you. He said it so warmly, "Come to me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give
you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For
my yoke is easy, and my burden light." (Matthew 11:28-30) Who could refuse such an invitation from your very best friend?
One time when Blessed Mother Teresa was visiting in our country, a group of American women asked her what they could do to
help her in her work. Blessed Mother Teresa replied, "The greatest help they could give her would be to spend one hour each week
in silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament." That is good advice for us, too.
During these past eleven months, I have been promoting the devotion of Eucharistic Adoration with your support. I am grateful to
everyone who is helping in this endeavor. I've experienced the benefit of Eucharistic Adoration in my own personal life. I've also
learned of the great benefits from the people who participate in Eucharistic Adoration. They tell me what it's done for themselves
and their families. I've learned from pastors, too, about the growth of spiritual life in their parishes. They've told me about the
increase in attendance at Mass on Sundays and weekdays, stronger marriages and happier families, and about the increase in
vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
June 4, 2010, is an important day for the spiritual journey of the OLL community. On that day, it will
be the first time we begin the First Friday Eucharistic Adoration in our parish. On the First Friday of
each month, immediately after the 8:00 a.m. Mass, Eucharistic Adoration begins in the Daily Mass
Chapel. Eucharistic Adoration continues until Friday at midnight. We encourage and request
Parishioners to make use of this great opportunity for our spiritual growth.
Jesus waits for us in this sacrament of love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him
in adoration. We have 365.25 days in a year, that is, 8,766 hours, in which only 12 hours, you are asked
to spend in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Please pray for the success of the adoration in
our parish. God bless you.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Abraham Kochupurackal CMI

We Pray for Those in the Military
Joshua L. (Marines)
David B. (Army)
Brittany W. (Army)
The list of names to be prayed for and those in the Military
will be “refreshed” four times a year. (January 1st, April
1st, July 1st, and October 1st). All prayer requests will need
to be re-requested at that time. Thank you for helping us to
keep the list up-to-date.
PRAYER FOR MEMORIAL DAY
Additional Presbyterian Home Volunteers are needed.
Beginning in June our ministries will consistently be
scheduled on Tuesdays. Please call Sr. Carrie, if you feel
called to minister with the elderly.
Dear Lord, on this Memorial Day, help us to be
mindful of the sacrifices made in our names.
Help us to be thankful for the men and women who
died to protect our freedoms.
Help us to appreciate all we’ve been given because
they gave their lives.
Please give our men and women in the armed
forces the courage to do what is right.
Please shield them from harm, be their light even in
their darkest hours, and their hope in the face of all
difficulties. Amen.
Leadership is requested for each liturgical ministry. For
the past many months, reminder calls have been made to
those serving at the weekend liturgies. In our busy lives, a
reminder is surely appreciated. At times, we all need to be
reminded that every ministry is vital in our prayerful, joyful
and full participation in Mass – the summit of our faith, our
thanks and praise to God.
Author Unknown
Now for the big question: We are looking for a leader for
each ministry to step forward and volunteer to make the
reminder calls for those assigned in your ministry. For
example, if you are a greeter, you would call all the
greeters assigned for the weekend by Thursday of the
preceding week. This may not be forever, as after a length
of time, we would ask another minister to take
responsibility for your group.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY
The Bible Study on the Gospel of Matthew will continue on
June 7th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Large Meeting
Room. Carla LaBore will be the facilitator. We will
continue on Monday nights through August. If you would
like to suggest a topic or future bible study programs,
please contact Scott Brazil at 952-472-1284, ext. 144, or
Carla LaBore at 612-518-2666. Please plan on joining us.
If you are not a liturgical minister, but would enjoy this
type of volunteer activity, we would appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance for calling Sr. Carrie at 952-472-1284,
ext. 168 to volunteer!

CHILD & FAMILY FAITH FORMATION
FROM KATHY’S DESK
Vacation Bible School Registration: Sign up soon for
VBS, The High Seas Adventure, which will take place the
week of June 21-25. Cost per child is $50.00. Participants
and volunteers can register on-line via the OLL website or

http://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/oll2010.
The
deadline to register is June 7th.
IMMIGRATION REFORM
The United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)
has asked Americans to join a postcard campaign to press
our representatives in the United States Senate and
Congress for immigration reform. The postcards we are
being asked to send to our representatives, state simply that
the current U.S. immigration system is broken and needs to
be completely reformed and urges that reform legislation be
brought forward and considered.
Liturgy of the Word for Children on June 6th and June
20th at the 10:30 a.m. Mass: We will continue our
program for the summer months. This activity is open to all
children ages Pre-K through Grade 4. The children are
invited to a special liturgy after Mass begins and then will
return to celebrate Eucharist with the congregation. We
hope to see you there!
Although the postcards are not specific, the USCCB
believes that reform should include a path to legalization or
citizenship for the estimated 12 million undocumented
persons in the country through “earned” legalization rather
than amnesty, that reforms need to include a temporary
worker program for migrant workers, reform measures
should allow families to be reunited more quickly and that
the root causes of migration, namely global economic
disparities, need to be addressed.
Baptism Preparation Class: The next scheduled baptism
preparation class is on Saturday, June 5th, at 10:30 a.m. in
the Fireside Room. All families who wish to have their
child baptized at OLL must have attended the preparation
class in recent years and be registered members at OLL.
Please call Kathy at 952-472-1284, ext. 147 to sign up.
First Communion Pictures: Please stop in the Faith
Formation office in the back of church to pick up your
pictures on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, between
9:00-4:00 p.m. If you need to make other arrangements,
please call Kathy at 952-472-1284, ext. 147. Thank you.
According to the U.S. Bishops, a reformed immigration
policy would weed out criminals and terrorists and reduce
the pressure on our nation’s southern border.
Please take a set of postcards and address them to our two
senators and our local representative, sign them and place
them on the table in the back of church. They will be
forwarded to the Archdiocesan Office of Social Justice.
Volunteers are greatly needed to help us with our
Vacation Bible School the week of June 21st through the
25th. We have a number of opportunities for adults as well
as older kids who are too old to be participants in VBS.
Volunteer opportunities include: small group leaders, small
group assistants, and activity leaders. Please contact Kathy,
if you are interested in learning more, or visit OLL’s VBS
website (http://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/oll2010) and
click on the “volunteer” tab.

ST. VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY
THRIFT STORE
Next Sunday has been designated Global Solidarity
Sunday in our archdiocese. As it is a day when we
celebrate communion through the Body and Blood of

sisters throughout the world. An outreach collection will be
taken and distributed to four initiatives designated by the
US Catholic Bishops to aid the Church in Africa, Latin
America, Central and Eastern Europe as well as
humanitarian activities of Catholic Relief Services. Your
generosity will free the many gifts and talents of brothers
and sisters overseas suffering from poverty, oppression, or
lack of education. Please be as generous as you are able.
Thank you.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society operates a thrift store at
3929 12th Avenue South, in Minneapolis, which provides
tangible assistance to thousands in our community. They
are in need of all types of furniture in good condition as
well as clothing, household items, etc. The Furniture
Hotline is: 651-602-0478. They will pick up within or near
the 494/694 loop. Your tax deductible donation will help
those in need.
