Course Syllabus

Overview
In this course, students will learn proper keyboarding technique, build
keyboarding speed and accuracy, and develop basic document formatting and
Internet searching skills.
Textbook and Materials Used: Microtype Software, Microsoft Word
Grading Policy

20 percent for word-per-minute rate
20 percent for tests
30 percent for document processing
30 percent technique

Word-per-Minute Rate
Timed writings will be graded as printed below. Timed writings are 3
minutes in length and will count only student achieve 98% accuracy.

Document Processing
Document processing assignments are printed assignments that are
handed in for a grade. The rubric used is printed below. A folder with
graded assignments will be kept for each student. This folder must be
in order at all times and will be used for parent-teacher conferences.

Technique
Proper keyboarding technique includes:
1.
Keying by the “touch method.” (Students who do not key
by the “touch
method” receive an F for the technique portion of the
grading system.)
2.
Using proper finger, hand, and wrist position.
3.
Using proper seating position.
The rubric is as follows:

Demonstrates correct technique except for one
element not including looking at the fingers.

elements not including looking at the fingers.

Procedures
Entering the Classroom

Log in.
Take out your Worklog and Folder.
Get your classroom folder (if necessary).
Go to your assigned seat.
Check the board for warmup or other information and begin working.
End of Class Period
1. Save your work (if necessary), close all programs, and log off.
2. Return your folder (if necessary).
3. Return to your workstation and remain seated until dismissed.
Turning in Work
1. Assignments are due by the scheduled due date.
2. Completed assignments should be placed in the basket in the back of
the classroom.
3. Late assignments will be available for 50% credit within one week of
due date.
Absences (Excused, Unexcused, and Pre-Planned)
1. Students are expected to get assignments missed due to absences.
2. Those with pre-planned absences should get assignments before
leaving.
Must be able to type 30 GWAM during the 1st quarter of class with 98% accuracy.
Must be able to type 35 GWAM during the 2nd quarter of class with 98%
accuracy.
