WORKSHOP LEADERS
2015 Summer Bridge Program
Program Description:
Summer Bridge serves a diverse and global community of entering undergraduates in a comprehensive
six-week academic residential program. It introduces scholars to the structure and rigor of the research
university, provides them with opportunities to foster meaningful academic and social connections with
peers, staff, and faculty, and challenges them to take ownership of their academic journeys. Scholars
enroll in two credit bearing courses, in addition to a seminar on Personal Wellness, and are each assigned
an academic counselor and resident assistant to ensure successful transition to Cal.
Bridge has grown 300% within the past three years. The 2014 cohort spoke 31 languages, came from 35
counties in California, represented 6 states, and hailed from 13 countries. Additionally, 77% of the 376
Bridge scholars were Pell grant and/or Dream Act eligible and 71% were the first in their families to
attend college.
The program is managed on behalf of the University by the Student Learning Center. Campus partners
from over 60 departments collaborate closely in planning and delivering the program each summer,
