SAFE CU PUTS SMART MONEY ON ACADEMIC DECATHLON Sacramento, Calif. February 22, 2013 — SAFE Credit Union supports a valuable 33year tradition for exceptional area high school students—the Academic Decathlon. This year, SAFE donated $10,000 to sponsor the Decathlon, and $4,500 to support three local schools. The donation also covers scholarships for winning students. SAFE’s support for the event has remained a longtime commitment for the credit union. This funding means that teams from Rio, Foothill, and Highlands high schools are able to compete against other schools on the subjects of economics, language and literature, music, science, art, mathematics, and social science, culminating in a high-energy team event called the Super Quiz. “The Decathlon celebrates academic talent, and more than that, it gives outstanding students a fun, competitive, and rewarding venue to match their skills against other exceptional students. For SAFE and all Sacramento-area businesses, supporting the Decathlon is investing in our young people,” said SAFE CEO Henry Wirz. In the Super Quiz, teams of students advance in the competition by correctly answering questions from a moderator. The theme of this year’s decathlon is Russia. The annual event is organized through the Sacramento County Office of Education.
