Woodland Hills, CA | May 7, 2014 – The El Camino Real Charter High School (ECRCHS) Academic
Decathlon team placed first in the 2015 U.S. Academic Decathlon Online Competition, earning 41,493.6
points out of a possible 48,000 points. Overall, the school placed second in the national competition.
The members of ECRCHS’s winning team,
pictured at right, are Mara Abesamis, Jose
Apolaya, Alexis Brito, Sarah Kwon, Tracy
Levick, Noah Millman, Dmytro Pasikov,
Shoshana Reich, and Ethan Waldman. The
coach is Stephanie Franklin.
In addition to the team win, ECRCHS student
Ethan Waldman achieved the highest
individual score in the 10-year history of the
online competition.
The ECRCHS Academic Decathlon team won the
2015 U.S. Academic Decathlon Online
Championship and placed second overall in the
national competition.
Last year, the team won the overall national championship. ECRCHS holds a record seven National
Championship titles, the highest of any school in the nation; it has won the championship in 1998, 2001,
2004, 2005, 2007, 2010, and 2014. ECRCHS has also captured a record 10 California State titles as well as
11 LAUSD regional competition titles.

The United States Academic Decathlon® is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school
students. Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 "A" or Honor students (3.750 - 4.00 GPA), 3
"B" or Scholastic students (3.00 - 3.749 GPA), and 3 "C or below" Varsity students (0.00 - 2.999 GPA). The
theme for the 2014–2015 Academic Decathlon® season is New Alternatives in Energy: Ingenuity and
Innovation (www.usad.org).
