MEDIA BULLETIN RE: JUNIOR HIGH ACADEMIC DECATHLON
STUDENTS FROM CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ACROSS CALIFORNIA
COMPETE FOR TOP ACADEMIC HONORS
(San Diego, CA) – (February 11, 2010) The Fourteenth Annual Junior High Academic
Decathlon in the Diocese of San Diego will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Mater
Dei High School in Chula Vista, California. Similar diocesan events will occur in eleven
other cities across the state. Eighteen schools and one hundred eighty students will be
participating in this local event. The winner from the Diocese of San Diego will
compete in the state championship of the California Catholic Schools’ Junior High
Academic Decathlon on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in San Bernardino, California.
Students will demonstrate their academic prowess in two team events – a very
challenging Logic Quiz and the infamous Super Quiz – and eight individual events,
including English, Current Events, Fine Arts, Literature, Math, Religion, Science, and
Social Studies.
The decathlon is a way our young adults can challenge their minds to achieve new levels
of excellence. This growing and popular event within our local diocese and the entire
State of California is indeed good news to be shared with the public.
