MEDIA BULLETIN RE: JUNIOR HIGH ACADEMIC DECATHLON STUDENTS FROM CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ACROSS CALIFORNIA COMPETE FOR TOP ACADEMIC HONORS (San Diego, CA) – (February 11, 2010) The Fourteenth Annual Junior High Academic Decathlon in the Diocese of San Diego will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Mater Dei High School in Chula Vista, California. Similar diocesan events will occur in eleven other cities across the state. Eighteen schools and one hundred eighty students will be participating in this local event. The winner from the Diocese of San Diego will compete in the state championship of the California Catholic Schools’ Junior High Academic Decathlon on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in San Bernardino, California. Students will demonstrate their academic prowess in two team events – a very challenging Logic Quiz and the infamous Super Quiz – and eight individual events, including English, Current Events, Fine Arts, Literature, Math, Religion, Science, and Social Studies. The decathlon is a way our young adults can challenge their minds to achieve new levels of excellence. This growing and popular event within our local diocese and the entire State of California is indeed good news to be shared with the public.
