Academic Decathlon Fall 2012 Introduction: The Academic Decathlon is a team competition where students match their intellects with students from other schools in LAUSD. The topics for this year’s challenge on the Russian Revolution are Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Math, Music, Science, and Speech. The Super Quiz topic will now be a combination of the six testable subjects (excluding math). Team members will be tested in all areas. Points will be awarded, and totaled as a team score. Medals and scholarships will also be given for high achievement in specific areas. Remember, our goal is to finish TOP TEN!! These tests scores will be added into your grade. Assignments, such as reading guides and outlines, will also be included into your grade. -Bring your Academic Decathlon folder to class every day! You are expected to be prepared. -You will compete against others that are also in your category, and no one else. Thus, if you are a varsity member, you will only be ranked against other varsity members. -Advisory will only be for ACADEMIC DECATHLON work!! -Students are expected to attend class and to not be tardy! Attendance and tardiness will be calculated into your work habits and cooperation grade. -If you miss a class, the assignment/make up work will be due the following day you return. -For any material you miss because of an excused absence, you need to be responsible and complete the missing work! The number of days of the absence will determine how many days you have to make up the work. (Ex: 1 day absent = 1 day to complete work). Turn the absent work into the inbox with ABSENT on the top. You can always find out what you missed by asking a friend in the class, asking me before or after class, or checking the class website. Please, try to refrain from asking me during class. -Any cheating in the class will be reported to the dean as well as receiving a zero on the assignment. -LATE WORK is not accepted in this course. -Keep electronic devices out of the classroom. NO iPods, cell phones, etc. They will be confiscated immediately and given to the dean. -If you perform better on your Scrimmage test, that score will replace your older score during the semester. -Please be respectful to everyone in the class.
