ALL CIPD STUDENTS Submission and Presentation of Assessed Work Information regarding submitting assignments, etc is outlined below. This should be read in conjunction with the Student Guide that you have been issued with at the beginning of your course. Please note that this may differ from your Student Handbook if you started your course before September 2006. ‘HAND-IN’ DATES All work is required on or before the hand in date as stated on your scheme of work. Resources are allocated against the formal hand-in date and if your work is handed in late it can only be assessed if and when resources become available again. Work handed in on time will be assessed within 30 working days. Work handed in late or re-submitted will be assessed within 45 working days. Overall we assess work as quickly as is practically possible but please do not ‘chase’ your assignment mark unless the response time exceeds the above timescales. Your work must be submitted by email to BPP HR Training at hrassignments@bpp.com. It must not be submitted to your tutor. If you want confirmation that your assignment has been received by BPP HR Training please ‘read receipt’ your email. ASSIGNMENT FILE SUBMISSION Work should be submitted using the file definition and format, as follows: Cohort Number – Student name - Assignment number e.g. HRECBO1RSmithAss1.doc or HRECBO1RSmithAss1.doc or APDCB01RSmithMR.doc or CPPB120RSmithAss1.doc Please note the assignment/ report number is as defined by the programme sequence not as an individual student may undertake it e.g. MICA (on the L and M programme) would be Ass2; Reward (on the Elective programme) would be Ass3, etc. Failure to adhere to this file format could result in delays to marking and/ or lost assignments. All work must be submitted as a single Microsoft WORD document (including appendices, etc). Multiple file submissions will therefore not be acceptable. Assignments that do not consist of a single file will be returned to the student. The maximum permissible file size is 10 Mb and files should ideally be zipped. WORD COUNT Word count will be assessed using the Tools Menu in Microsoft WORD. While it is accepted that there are some inaccuracies with/idiosyncrasies around this, eg the word count would include characters, this will still be the basis for all calculations. As a result, any subsequent penalty will be based on the word count figure produced by the Tools Menu in Microsoft Word, without appeal. 1/2 The word count excludes the title page, contents page, references (this is your list of references and not the references in the text which will be included in word count) and the appendices. All material in tables, charts, diagrams, etc is included in the word count in line with the process indicated above. You will be penalised if you attempt to circumvent the word count by putting material in the appendices that should be in the main body of the report, eg implementation plans. Appendices for all assignments/ reports will be twelve A4 sides maximum, other than for the APD Management Report, which will be a maximum of twenty A4 sides. A penalty will be applied if you exceed the word count. The penalty will be 5% of the overall that you would otherwise have been awarded for the assignments, eg if your overall mark is 61% but you exceed the maximum word count then your overall mark will be reduced by 3% (ie 5% of 61%) to 58% with, in this case, the grade being reduced from a Credit to a Pass. If you exceed the word limit by over 10% (as defined by WORD) then your assignment will be returned to you. The word count will be checked by the marker. Of course, if your assignment is less than the word count it is likely that you have omitted something and therefore your assignment is unlikely to pass. PRESENTATION All assignments must: Have a title page Be presented in concise, formal report format style Be written in clear, concise, accurate business English. Have all sources, quotes, models etc. clearly referenced Use Harvard referencing only Be word processed using a standard 12 point font Use 1.5 line spacing Have page numbers Have a copy retained by you for reference purposes. Note: it is the student’s responsibility to maintain a security copy in case of computer failure. Not contain any typos, grammatical errors, etc AND FINALLY ……… A signed and fully completed pro-forma (with your cohort number) that indicates word count and that your assignment is your original work, should also be included with your assignment and emailed to hrassignments@bpp.com. Failure to do this will result in delays to, or non-marking of, your assignment as assessment cannot commence until receipt of the pro-forma. Sample audit checks will be carried out with respect to signature originality. Failure to comply with the above requirements may adversely affect the marking of your assignment. The above is effective from 14/08/06 2/2
