Date Ref Direct Line E-mail Web 4 August 2011 IS/SC 0131 313 8045 ian.staples@nes.scot.nhs.uk www.scottishappraisal.scot.nhs.uk Dear Doctor NES National Medical Appraiser Courses, Phase 3 If you wish to proceed with an application for training, please discuss this with your Health Board Appraisal Lead/GP LAA to obtain their formal support before proceeding further. We enclose a model Appraiser Role Description/Person Specification (Sec Care) and a Medical Appraiser Job Description (GP), Application Form and Equal Opportunities Monitoring form for the NES National Medical Appraiser courses. Please complete the Application Form and Equal Opportunities Monitoring form and return them to NES once you have the support of your Appraisal Lead/GP LAA. Only electronic applications, using the Microsoft Word documents supplied by NES, will be accepted. This is due to NES data management requirements. The forms should be returned as attachments to an email to joyce.mccrae@nes.scot.nhs.uk. The closing date for applications is normally 3 months before the start date of the first course you have chosen. (The closing date for the Highland course for New Appraisers is 1 September 2011). However, late applications will be accepted for any of the courses if places are available. Successful applicants will be informed which training day(s) they have been allocated as soon as possible. Depending on the number of applications, we may not be able to offer all applicants their first choice for training dates and in some cases we may not be able to offer a place on this round of training, as places are limited. The decision regarding who to take forward for training will take into account availability for training, the desire to include participants from all territorial health boards, and the quality of the application. We will keep the details of unsuccessful applicants on file and contact you regarding future deliveries of Appraiser Training. Please note that there is no payment associated with Appraiser Training for Secondary Care doctors. Your Health Board has been asked to cover your travelling costs and any accommodation expenses and release you for the time required (as SPA or special leave). We will pay travel expenses for Primary Care doctors who are self-employed contractors. If you require any further information please contact Ian Staples, Project Team Manager at NES (ian.staples@nes.scot.nhs.uk or 0131 313 8045). Yours sincerely Ian Staples, Project Team Manager, NES
