Career Inventories
Choices is a computer program designed to help students identify interest areas,
strengths and weaknesses, and attributes important to the student’s career choice.
Choices then matches careers to fit an individual’s results.
The assignment requires students to finish four sections within Choices:
1. Interest Profiler
2. Ability Profiler
3. Work Importance Locator
Before you start, you write the Choices Reflection Essay. Detailed instructions for
completing each section of Choices are found below. Please read all directions
carefully before beginning. If you have a question, look for the answer first in the
directions and then raise your hand. Write down your user name and password!!!
You do not need to print a hard copy of your results to hand in for a grade. However,
you do need the results of all 3 exercises for our post-choices work.
To complete the Interest Profiler:

Open Choices. Find a link to Choices in the K: drive in the Choices Folder.
Under session file name, create a user name.
Create a password.
Select create.
Type your password again.
Under select challenge question, select a challenge question on the drop down menu.
Select an answer to your challenge question and select Continue.
Fill out your first name and last name only and select Continue.
On the left side of the Choices main menu, click on Interest Profiler (orange box).
Read GETTING STARTED (two pages, click on Continue to get to the second page) and
click on Start the Profiler.
Answer the following 180 questions. You should carefully read the items and select
either LIKE, UNSURE or DISLIKE.
Review the results of the Interest Profiler and pay special attention to the matching
occupations.
Write down 3 occupations from the list that are interesting to you and 2 occupations that
you would never consider.
To complete the Ability Profiler:

Open Choices and log in to your file.
On the left side of the Choices main menu, click on Ability Profiler (orange box). The
password is start
Follow the directions and complete all 6 sections. If you run out of class time, Choices
will save your work through the last section you have completed.
When you have finished, select “See the Results of your Ability Profiler.”
Review your results and click Continue – then click Review Matching Occupations.
Write down 3 occupations from the list that are interesting to you and 2 occupations that
you would never consider.
To complete the Work Importance Locator:

Open Choices and log in to your file.
On the left side of the Choices main menu, click on Work Importance Locator (orange
box).
Follow the directions and complete.
When you have completed the exercise, review your Locator results.
After reviewing the results, click Review Matching Occupations.
Write down 3 occupations from the list that are interesting to you and 2 occupations that
you would never consider.
