Descriptions:
SAS 01. Subir a Clorinda 2006. The workcamp takes place in the city of Clorinda, close to
the border with Paraguay and the city of Asunción, in the North of Argentina. The project
wants to encourage the Centre of Mujeres Clorindense´s communitarian action and the youth
groups working for the most disadvantaged people of Clorinda. After the first international
experience with Subir al Sur on 2005, we want to invite new volunteers to strengthen the
actions and social mobilisation we started last year. During the project, the volunteers will
work on ecological actions in the neighbourhood of Santa Teresita (planting trees and
renovate the local square) and will work afterwards on cleaning up the shores of the river that
runs between Clorinda and Nanava (Paraguay city, on the border with our friend country). In
the afternoons, the volunteers will organise artistic activities with the kids and youth groups
who live in the neighbourhood and will promote participatory sessions on values and social
issues. In the weekends, we should visit the national park Pilcomayo river, with beautiful
exploration paths, the local Indian culture (the Toba ethnic group) as well as to visit
Asuncion, Paraguay's capital city.
SAS 02. Subir con Conciencia. The project will take place in the town of Villa Ana, which
has a very important background in Argentina. It was the headquarter of a British company
exploiting the local ressources of tannin. Years ago, the factory fell into ruins and finaly the
company left the town… Kids, youngsters, adults and old people are nowadays looking for
alternative ways to bring the city back to life and to impulse new participative and productive
ideas for the comunity. The Youth group “Quebrachito”, who works with “El Quebracho
Colorado´s Cooperative” wants to invite youngsters from the world to participate in a time of
work to improve the youth group visibility in the city. During the workcamp time, they would
like to exchange with the volunteers through artistic ways such as painting and sculpting,
acting, and playing music, in order to renovate of a square in the town and the local Social
Club (built in 1924 and originaly used by the workers of the British company) where at the
end of the workcamp the community will organize an Art Festival. Thanks to this important
social step, the local youth will be able to start working on the opening of a Cultural Youth
Center for the comunity. In the week-ends, the Youth club will organise some visits to
historical sites to revitalise the historical memories of the town. The group will also spend a
day to live a typical “gauchesca” experience and work with the cattle. We´ll finaly have the
possibility to do several trekkings in different sites in the region (the places around the former
quebracho exploitation particularly), and enjoy Nature activities such as fishing and siteseeing.

General principles and characteristics on our workcamps.






Our projects are organized in colaboration with local NGO´s and youth groups
working for social inclusion and participation of young people.
All profiles of volunteers are accepted as long as they are more than 18 years old, but
consider that in all the projects there is a high participation of argentinian youngsters.
No special languague required: for us to create alternative ways of communication is
a particularly important goal.
The workcamps are coordinated by Subir al Sur´s animators and camp-leaders. We
usualy combine social service actions with cultural and leisure activities. The
reflections activities during special sessions of discussion about values and social
issues are very important for us.
The volunteers should travel to Argentina with their personal health insurance.
Accommodation and food are provided by the local organization.
Who we are!!!:
Subir al Sur is an Argentinian non-governmental organization working on the field of
intercultural education and voluntary service since 2004, with the aim to connect Argentina
with the world trough a cooperation based on the values of peace and mutual understanding
in diversity. Our mission is to contribute to the creation of a peace loving Humanity by
promoting the encounter, the horizontal cooperation and the deep understanding of
“the other´s differences”. All the people involved in Subir al Sur has a strong experience
acting on the social and educational sector of Argentina. From this base, during 2005 we
developed successfully our two first local-global workcamps in the North-eastern Region of
Argentina in partnership with two local NGO´s and with the participation of 18 international
volunteers and 100 argentinian youngsters with fewer opportunities. This year we expect to
start “sending” argentinian volunteers and expect to welcome more youngster from our
partners all around the world. Subir al Sur is closely working with the Youth Action for Peace
(YAP) movement who gave us an important support to start our activities, and CCIVS –
UNESCO who contributed to the challenge of promoting international voluntary service in
Latin America. One of the most important principles of Subir al Sur is to organize
international projects in order to empower local groups of argentinian youngsters with fewer
opportunities and support its initiatives. We do believe that in creating this bridge we cocreate a positive change for our planet.
