Lesson Plan 5.4 (9/22/06) Subject: Exploratory Spanish Grade Level: 7th Topic: tener Teacher: Virginia Dyson Time Allotment: 50 min. Teaching date: 5 of 6 I. Instructional Goals The learner will learn the basic conjugations of “tener” through a short Spanish play. Students will also learn 4 idiomatic uses of tener. II. Instructional Objectives a.) The learner will identify the basic vocabulary words dealing with the body. b.) The learner will list the basic conjugation of “tener”. c.) The learner will identify idiomatic expressions using tener. d.) The learner will use “tener” in simple sentences. e.) The learner will recite simple Spanish lines of a play. III. Standards ALCOS 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics. ALCOS 4.1: Students demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of the language studied and their own. ALCOS 2.1: Students demonstrate an awareness of the practices of the culture studied. IV. Time 5 min Teaching/Learning Procedures Activity A. Motivation/Introduction 1.) Students will complete the sentences with the correct conjugation of tener. 20min B. Teaching/Learning Activities 1.) Students will share some of the sentences from their homework using the different conjugations of tener. 2.) Students will identify 4 idiomatic expressions that use tener: “Tengo hambre, tengo sed, tengo frío, tengo calor.” These will be used in simple sentences students will practice in pairs this concept with a worksheet. 25 min C. Closure Summarize 1.) Students will practice for their play in their small groups. V. Resources Spanish is Fun VI. Materials 1 whiteboard, 1 projector, 2 play/body worksheets for 40 students, 1 tener worksheet for 40 students VII. Accommodations: No accommodations are made. VIII Assignment Students will memorize their part for the play. IX. Assessment Comprehension will be checked with periodic questioning.
