Cell Organelle Project Part One 1. You will choose 2 Plant Cell Organelles from the list. 2. Use the websites to look them up and find out what they look like and what they do (function) 3. Put your organelles on the chart 4. Now tell your teammates about them. Have them put your organelles on their chart 5. Then they tell you about their organelles. Put them on your chart 6. Now everyone should have a chart with 8 organelles on it. 7. Use your chart to help you with part 2 8. There will be a QUIZ now to see if everyone has learned the 8 organelles Part Two 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Now you will make a plant cell poster using your chart Get a large piece of poster paper, some colored pencils and a ruler Draw your cell large enough so that all the organelles are visible Label all the organelles including the ones on your chart Under the name of the organelle, put the function of that organelle too Color your cell and use lots of detail. BE NEAT Don’t forget your name and a title When you are finished, hand in your chart (25 points) and your poster (25 points) Then go on to part 3 Part Three 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Now you will make a video about your cell Your video can be song about cells or a movie about the organelles of cells It can be a rap song, a tv commercial, a soap opera (novella) or any other creative idea. Your video must include everyone in your group and show that you know all the parts of the cell and how they work. Check out this video as an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRrBzCipSqM&feature=related Once you take your video you will upload it to a computer for editing. Now you will upload it to youtube! Now start filling in your chart Part 1. MAKE YOUR CHART Choose 2 from the following. Make sure each team member has different ones: 1. Nucleus 2. Golgi Body (Apparatus or Complex) 3. Mitochondria 4. Endoplasmic Reticulum (rough) 5. Endoplasmic Reticulum (smooth) 6. Cell Wall 7. Chloroplast 8. Cytoplasm/Cytosol 1. Give a basic definition of the organelle. 2. Give a detailed description of the function of this organelle. What does it do? 3. Tell where the organelle is located within the cell by showing its location in a drawing and a description. 4. Give an analogy of what the organelle is like. Ex. The nucleus is like the principal of a school. 5. Fill in the attached chart for all 8 organelles. One chart per person, please. 6. Draw a detailed picture of the organelle showing its parts. MAKE YOUR POSTER Now you need to draw a detailed picture of your plant cell using all 8 of your organelles. This picture (poster) must be large enough to see all the details and must contain labels for each organelle with the function. The drawing must be colored. Here are some websites to help you http://www.bchs.k12.va.us/BCHS-Webpage/HSWEBPAGE/SchoolSite/biology.htm http://www.harlem-school.com/10TH/sci_pdf/sci.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_cell http://www.infovisual.info/01/001_en.html Part 3. MAKE YOUR VIDEO Now get a video camera and your team and get started making your video about your cell. 1. Start by deciding on a type. a. Music video b. Soap opera c. TV commercial d. One of your own ideas 2. Now figure out who will do what. a. Who will video tape the movie b. Who will edit the movie and upload to youtube c. Who will write the script d. Who will star in the movie 3. Figure out when and where you will film your video Here are some more websites to help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apadq9iPNxA&feature=related how to upload to computer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w-gQAwS2uc&feature=related how to upload to youtube TIMELINE AND DUE DATES Part 1 – Organelle chart (25 points) Two organelles researched by _____________________ One chart per person due on _____________________ Part 2 – Plant Cell Poster (25 points) One poster per person due on _____________________ Part 3 – Plant cell video (50 points each person) One video per group Submit idea to teacher by __________________ Submit script for approval to teacher by ___________________ Begin filming by ___________________ Begin editing by _____________________ Video presentation to class by _____________________ Upload to youtube by _________________ Comments on class videos due by _____________________ Name: ________________________ Teacher: Turner Date of Presentation: ____________ Title of Work: ___________________ Criteria 0-2 Organization Content Knowledge Participation And Deadlines Mechanics/Theme Delivery 3-5 50 Points/Comments 6-8 9-10 Students present Audience cannot Audience has difficulty Students present information in logical, understand presentation following presentation information in logical interesting sequence ____ because there is no because students do not sequence which which audience can sequence of information. follow a clear sequence audience can follow. follow.
