Honors Biology 1st Semester Final Study Guide This final will be based on all of the material covered in the first semester. Over 70% of the final will be based on cellular structure and function, cellular respiration, and photosynthesis. The written portion of the exam will be all multiple choice/True or False format answered on a Scantron. Do not take this test lightly. The questions asked will demand that you understand each topic in detail. The second portion of the final will be based on your group’s photosynthesis lab. Topic covered: 1. Chemistry a. Know how to calculate the total number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom using a periodic table b. Why do atoms bond together (bonding)? i. Covalent ii. Ionic iii. Hydrogen iv. Van der Waal Forces 2. Ecology: a. Definition of Ecology b. What are abiotic and biotic factors? Examples. i. How these factors affect the dispersal of organisms. 3. Biological Macromolecules a. What are the 4 main biological macromolecules (polymers)? i. What monomer makes up each? 4. Metabolism a. What is the difference between endergonic and exergonic reactions? b. What is ATP? c.
