Program Mission:
Program Mission/Goals
The primary mission of the Division of Occupational Therapy
at Florida A&M University is to provide students with
educational experiences within a student-centered
environment that promote and foster self-directed life-long
learners who, with use of critical thinking, clinical reasoning,
and effective communication skills, infuse theory into
evidence-based practice and acquire entry-level professional
competence in the delivery of occupational therapy services.

Outcomes
1. Communication Skills: Students in the Health Science
Occupation and Wellness will demonstrate proficiency in oral
and written communication skills.
2. Critical Thinking Skills: Students will demonstrate the
ability to use critical thinking, clinical reasoning and
problem-solving skills in analyzing and evaluating various
types of cases, reports and research publications in
addressing issues, problems and current topics in
occupational therapy.
3. Specific Content Knowledge: Students will
demonstrate an understanding of knowledge, concepts and
skills related to the delivery of healthcare services with an
emphasis on occupational therapy.
4. Technology Proficiency: Students will demonstrate
proficiency in the use of various technologies for research,
statistics, presentation, and documentation.
5. Professional Behavior/Ethics: Students will
demonstrate professional standards, values, attitudes,
behaviors, and ability to work in a fair and equitable manner
with diverse populations in accordance with the
Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics.
