AKA (Adam Kenwright Associates) (London)
AKA is a full-service advertising and promotion agency, based in central London, specializing in the entertainment industry, from theater to concerts to special
events. The company provides design, media planning/buying, merchandising and marketing services
to clients. The intern will be involved as a General
Assistant, helping on various projects where required.
A fair amount of administrative duties will be included, from photocopying to helping prepare client
pitches. Consequently, this is a great opportunity for
someone with a marketing/graphics background to
obtain an insight into the workings of entertainment
advertising. The intern should be fully computer
literate, flexible, enthusiastic and well organized
and must have good written and verbal skills. For

American Chamber of Commerce to Belgium
(Brussels) This position is available only to EU
citizens who can stay six months or longer, and
the Chamber will favor candidates who are available for a personal interview. The intern will have
the opportunity to be involved in specific projects and
in the preparation and writing of articles for chamber
publications as well as sharing in basic administrative
tasks. The intern will also have contact with members, especially through providing support to the
committee structure and the organization of events.
As a member of the AmCham team, the intern will
find that his/her ideas and suggestions for improving
projects and services will be welcomed. The intern
should have a background in business or economics, marketing, or communications and be
familiar with international trade issues. Excellent
oral and written communication skills in English
are required, and knowledge of French is a definite plus. Familiarity with MS Office applications,
the ability to work independently and with others,
a high degree of accuracy, and a strong sense of

American Chamber of Commerce to the European
Union (AmChamEU) (Brussels) Depending on the
needs of the office, the intern might assist with the
Communications Department or help the Press and
Marketing Officer with the organization of a major
event. Other projects might include assisting with
marketing of publications, helping update the marketing database, monitoring complimentary publication
distribution and analysis, and working on general
marketing analysis. The intern is likely to have specific tasks and projects to manage in addition to helping staff members. Candidates for the position
must be very well organized, have an eye for
detail, be able to keep to deadlines, be computer
literate and work well in a young and international

American Chamber of Commerce in the Czech
Republic (Prague) Note: Due to the current needs
of the office, this position is not always available.
Interested students should contact International Programs before applying. In helping the chamber promote the development of US/Czech commerce in the
Czech Republic, the intern will assist with research of
issues concerning economic and political development in the republic. The intern may also assist in
the planning and coordination of networking, informational, and professional events held by the chamber.
Other projects might include the preparation and
editing of government proposals, business letters and
chamber publications. The intern will also have contact with members and is expected to contribute to
the membership retention efforts of the chamber.
The AmCham staff will welcome the intern’s suggestions for the improvement of projects and processes
at the chamber. The intern must have strong organizational and communication skills and
should be proficient with computers, particularly
Microsoft Word and Excel. The student should
feel comfortable dealing with corporate and political leaders in an international setting. The intern
should possess a knowledge of or desire to learn
about recent history in East Central Europe.
Czech language skills are preferred but not required. The student should be able to work as
part of a team and independently and will be
asked to file weekly updates on projects.

American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary
(Budapest) In November 1989, 32 American companies established the American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, while today it has around 600
members from 22 different countries. The mission of
AmCham is to be the leading representative for US
and international business in Hungary and to promote
Hungary’s global competitiveness. AmCham members have invested more than USD 17 billion in Hungary, a figure which comprises around 60% of the
country’s total foreign direct investment. AmCham is
renowned for its strong and effective lobbying activities and the well-attended business events it organizes with prominent speakers of the foreign and Hungarian business and political community. In this
small, non-smoking office, which serves a fastdeveloping membership, the intern will help organize
programs, assist in small market studies, give information to visitors and aid the member companies in
solving their problems. The intern might be in charge
of running the annual membership survey of the
ECACC (European Chamber of the American Chambers of Commerce) members. The intern must be
an experienced computer user, familiar with the
latest versions of Windows Office programs. The
working language of the office is English, though
Hungarian would certainly be an asset. The student must have good written and spoken communication skills and feel comfortable dealing
with leaders of the largest multinational companies. Good sales skills and marketing experience

American Express (Madrid) The position is under
development and is listed provisionally. An intern
may be needed in the marketing or commercial department. The student should be computer literate, display excellent (verbal and written) communication skills both in English and Spanish
and have two or three years of business or marketing studies. The intern should also be a good
team player with excellent organizational and

The American University of Paris (Paris) Interns
may be assigned research projects involving Internet
and other sources of information. These projects
may involve any subject relevant to the business of
the Office of Academic Affairs. Interns may also be
involved in processing summer session enrollments.
All interns should be native speakers of American
English and should have a good command of
French. They should also be computer literate
and have good interpersonal skills. The students
should be able to work independently and feel at
home in an international environment.

The American University of Paris (Paris) The AUP
Summer Intern is involved with a variety of aspects of
AUP Summer Programs, including office support
(photocopying, faxing, mailing), liaison with other
departments (Bursar, Registrar, etc., some of them in
other buildings), processing summer applications
(creating paper and computer files, tracking numbers,
follow-up with students), assisting with French Immersion morning coffee break (set-up of coffee machine, buying croissants, interacting with French
Immersion participants in French), working with the
AUP Housing Office and acting as Resident Advisor
(the link between AUP administration, residence
administration, and visiting students). The office part
of the job is full-time (Monday through noon on Friday). The intern should be a native speaker of
American English and should have a good command of French. Computer skills (Word, Excel)
are required. The student should be able to work
independently, have good interpersonal skills,
and feel at home in an international environment.
The intern receives five lunch vouchers per week and
housing (with breakfast and dinner) in a double room
at the Foyer International d'Accueil de Paris from the
day before the first summer session to the day after
final exams of the second session. During French
Immersion Programs, the intern is invited to participate in Paris Walking Tours (in French) on Tuesday

Arrow Communications/Fairco Worldwide (Brussels) Arrow Communications is a small marketing
and communications company working mainly in the
education area worldwide. The company works with
many well-known universities and colleges in different parts of the world on research projects worldwide,
global media planning and buying, Web site development plus print design when necessary. Arrow’s IT
work extends to clients outside the education area.
Fairco is mainly working on research into education
fairs worldwide plus country profiles (in-depth information on the many countries where fairs are held).
The organization’s knowledge is extensive, and 2005
will see more advancement on the e-commerce site.
A successful intern should have a genuine wish
to be part of a group who is innovative and who
strives for excellence in all that it does, however
small the task. Attention to detail is critical, as is
computer literacy. Languages other than English

ASOS (London) Established in 2000 and originally
known as As Seen on Screen, ASOS is an awardwinning Internet-based fashion retailer. A department store for youth culture, ASOS is aimed predom-
inately at Internet-savvy, style-hungry 16 to 24 year
olds. ASOS offers an extensive range of top fashion,
designer label and lifestyle accessories at very competitive prices. The company prides itself on the
consistency and quality of its product range, its ability
to react very quickly to the latest fashions and trends
and the impeccable service it delivers to customers.
ASOS was voted "Best Trendsetter" by the Sunday
Times in 2001 and "Best Newcomer" by Retail Week
in 2002. In 2004 the company was awarded "Best
Performing Share" on the Alternative Investment
Market and was the second most visited fashion retail
Web site. The company is split between the administration center in Central London and its logistical
hub and warehouse within 50 miles outside the center. This listing is provisional, but depending on the
skills of the intern, positions might be available for
Marketing/PR, Accounts, Operations (Web production, use of Photoshop to update the site with
new products), Buyer's Assistant (administration,
data entry, research and support to one of the

Association of British Orchestras (London) The
Association of British Orchestras exists to support,
develop, and advance the interests and activities of
the orchestral profession in the UK. In its four key
objectives — advocacy, communication, information,
and knowledge — the ABO is an advocate for the
orchestral community of the UK, ensuring that the
voice of British orchestras is heard by all relevant
parties; provides the principal means by which members communicate collectively with each other to
facilitate shared knowledge, collaborative initiatives,
and problem solving; provides accurate, timely, and
comprehensive information on issues and events the
affect the management, development, and legal
responsibilities of orchestras; and provide training
and continuing professional development opportunities for all levels of orchestral management. The
ABO has places for interns throughout the year to
join a small, energetic, and committed team of three
full-time staff members. The post will provide an
excellent introduction to the orchestral life on the UK
with the unique opportunity to meet a wide range of
people working in the classical music industry as well
as the opportunity to develop a range of administrative skills. Interns work on dedicated projects as well
as supporting the ABO staff in the office and at numerous events, from public symposia to specialist
manager meetings and training courses. General
duties will include dealing with telephone enquiries,

is one of the fastest-growing, high-value-added man-
agement consulting firms in the world. The company
has attained this position because it adds value and

of A.T. Kearney is its ability to mobilize and leverage
its own resources and those of the client to achieve

intern will work for the Information Research Center
and will contribute to the department in a number of

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (London)
CND, a British pressure group founded in 1958,
campaigns for abolition of all nuclear weapons and
other weapons of mass destruction. CND focuses on
opposing the UK’s Trident nuclear weapon system by
organizing events locally and nationally, producing
information and materials, and lobbying the UK government. Other priorities are opposition to US plans
for a National Missile Defense system; British withdrawal from, and the abolition of, NATO; a European
nuclear weapon-free zone; the cessation of the plutonium trade; and ensuring that all Members of Parliament are kept informed of nuclear issues. The
intern will work as part of the staff team, organizing
campaigning, media, parliamentary and information
work. Depending on the needs of the 10-person staff
team, the intern will undertake a variety of project and
administrative work. The intern, a confident selfstarter, will need good written and oral communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team,
initiative, database and IT skills, and a commitment to (or at least an interest and sympathy in)

The Canada Post (London) The Canada Post is a
free monthly tabloid-sized newspaper for the 250,000
Canadians living in the United Kingdom. Circulation
is 25,000 copies, serving an estimated readership of
60,000-plus. The Canada Post''s mission is to reach
all 250,000 Canadians who are resident in the UK
and offer them an excellent review of current news,
events and issues in Canada and in the Canadian
community in Britain. This internship is currently

Centre for European Policy Studies (Brussels)
Founded in 1983, the Centre for European Policy
Studies is an independent policy research institute
dedicated to producing sound policy research leading
to constructive solutions to the challenges facing
Europe today. CEPS’ goals are to achieve high
standards of academic excellence and maintain
unqualified independence; to provide a forum for
discussion among all stakeholders in the European
policy process; to build collaborative networks of
researchers, policy-makers and business across the
whole of Europe; and to disseminate its findings and
views through a regular flow of publications and
public events. The CEPS research program is organized under two major headings: Economic Policy;
and Politics, Institutions and Security. The intern,
who should have some knowledge of the institutions and policies of the European Union and
should understand at least one EU language
besides English, is required to provide research
assistance in the ongoing research of the unit by, for
example, collecting data and producing statistics,
finding relevant articles and books, writing short
summaries of articles, producing readers, etc. The
intern may also be expected to write summaries of
seminars and lunch-time meetings. The intern

Conservative Central Office (London) This office
may need an intern to work with Michael Howard, the
new Leader of the Opposition. The intern might
assist with the correspondence unit or help in other
areas as needed. The intern should be an enthusiastic and high-energy person who is familiar

Dr. Johnson’s House / Dickens House Museum
(London) Dr. Johnson’s House and Dickens House
Museum are two small historic houses in central
London. While there is no formal link between the
houses, they work closely on joint projects and share
resources. An intern would be expected to work 2.5
days at each house (15 minutes’ walk apart). Both
houses are run by a small staff, and volunteers and
interns play a valuable part in the running of the
museums. The intern will “shadow” the Curator,
observing external and internal meetings, assisting
with administration and special events, data-inputting,
answering queries both on the telephone and in
person and working with the public. The intern
should be computer literate, flexible and friendly
and have experience in working with the public.
An interest in English literature and history is
required, and the intern must be interested in
pursuing a career in museums. Since Dickens
House requires an interview, this position would work
for someone already studying in London prior to the

Eastern European Opportunities (Romania, Moldova, and the Georgian Republic) A variety of
positions — including education, health care, government, criminal justice, and security — may be

Euro-American Education, Ltd. (Katowice and
other locations in southern Poland, Fall, Spring,
Summer) Euro-American Education, which was
established by a former JMU student, would like two
or three interns each academic year to teach English
as a Foreign Language in a variety of programs and
assist with other duties. Euro-American Education is
a leading English training organization in Poland with
an established market presence for over 10 years
and several international educational partners. Each
intern will study lesson and syllabus planning
firsthand, do daily and long-term preparation, observe
and assist instructors in teaching, substitute teach at
various AAE centers, and will advance toward teaching a full load (24 hours per week) of a variety of
courses (General English, English for Business,
Young Learners, Test Preparation). Interns will work
under the close supervision of administrative staff.
Ideally, candidates should be either BAs with a 3.0
minimum GPA with course work in Education/ English/Linguistics or Master’s candidates with course
work completed in similar or related fields.
Knowledge of Polish is not essential, though certainly
helpful. Fall Semester runs from the first week of
October through the first week of February, and
Spring Semester runs from the third week of February to the end of June. Students interested in a

European Voice Newspaper (Brussels) European
Voice is the Economist Group (launched in 1995)
weekly devoted to covering EU politics, business and
policy. As the only weekly publication written for and
about the leaders of the EU institutions, EV is a highly regarded editorial and commercial operation. The
office is offering an internship to serve in every aspect of the newspaper: display sales, conferences,
editorial research, marketing and circulation, etc.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in
media and will possess above-average communication skills and organizational ability. Strong
verbal and written skills are a must. Knowledge

Focus Career Services (Brussels, early Summer)
This well-known Brussels non-profit organization,
which provides its services to the international community in Belgium, needs an intern for a wide range
of activities. Depending on staffing needs, there are
many possibilities in marketing, communications,
finance, office management and research. The intern
may be asked to contribute to the Focus newsletter
or help with setting up a family support group for an
international company. Focus is a great place for a
person especially interested in expatriates or nonprofit organization management issues, but at the
same time the position gives the opportunity to solve
traditional marketing or management problems. The
intern should be able to work independently,
have a proactive approach and be self-motivated
and confident, as he or she will have a great deal
of contact with the members. A basic knowledge
of French would be helpful but not necessary.

FOCUS Information Services (London) FOCUS is
a non-profit organization that supports international
assignees and their families living and working in the
UK. Established in 1982, FOCUS provides information and networking opportunities for its members,
enabling them to integrate rapidly into their new environment. The office needs an intern to help in the
following areas: Marketing (assist in management of
client marketing efforts, assist in researching marketplace, competitive environment and new business
and help maintain and create promotional program
materials, research potential program ideas and
speakers), Membership (assist in the welcoming of
new members via email and telephone calls, help
with the creation and execution of the email outreach
campaign to the membership population), Resource
Centre (update resources - Library, Resource Centre,
Database, assist on the helpline), Business Development (research and letter writing to potential sponsors, enhancement and implementation of streamlining services where needed). Some data processing
and filing for various departments will also be
included, mostly on line through the database.
The intern should be enthusiastic, outgoing and
have strong communication and written skills.

Frankfurt Economic Development Corp. (Frankfurt) FEDC provides special services to companies
considering setting up business in Germany and also
serves as a link between the city of Frankfurt and its
business community. Applicants should be students in an international management track or
related studies with interest in working internationally. The intern should have an excellent
knowledge of the German language and be familiar with computers (especially Microsoft Office
2000 software such as MS WORD, EXCEL, and
POWERPOINT) as well as with the Internet as a
business tool. The intern should be prepared to
participate in evening events in the Frankfurt business community and will be actively involved in
American-German business events. The intern will
work closely with the representatives of US State
Offices and US government entities. The intern will
assist in translating and transcribing documents in

Fulbright Commission US Educational Advisory
Service (London) The Student Information Officer
deals with general enquiries about US education at
all levels and will be fully trained during an intensive
two-week period. Depending on personal interests
and needs, the intern will have opportunities for possible projects, including planning and promoting
events, researching publications and information
sheets on various aspects of US education, or producing articles for the EAS newsletter. This is an
ideal position for someone interested in international
education to learn about the field and take responsibility for challenging projects. Interns at EAS will
work as part of a small, dynamic team in a busy but
productive and rewarding environment, dealing with
people from many different backgrounds and cultures. The intern should have experience with the
US education system, office work experience, a
minimum GPA of 3.0, good written and oral communication skills, cross-cultural sensitivity and
patience, good computer skills (as technology is
widely used), the ability to cope in a busy work
environment and to take on multiple tasks at
once, strong organization skills, and ability to
learn quickly, and initiative. Experience of the UK
higher education system is preferred. A wide
range of majors would be suitable, including
international relations, communications, education, and information management / library science. Students with experience in HTML/Web
site design are also welcome. The work is divided
between provision of information (85%) and administration (15%) — further details are available on the

Fulbright Commission Academic Advising Office
(Madrid) The intern will assist with the Fulbright
scholarship program, provide academic advising on
the educational systems of the US and Spain, prepare handouts and statistical reports, maintain the
office library, establish contacts with other advising
centers and collaborate closely with other departments as needed. The intern must have a high
level of proficiency/fluency in Spanish (which will
be verified by telephone with the Madrid office),
firsthand knowledge of the US educational system with emphasis on graduate studies, familiarity with Spanish university education, excellent
interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in
a group. Typing and computer skills are essential. Public speaking experience would be helpful, and the student must have good listening
skills and cross-cultural sensitivity. The intern
should be able to move easily from clerical work
to projects with deadlines. The intern must be a
US citizen. In order to foster continuity, the interns
may be asked to overlap their terms and thus may

Fulbright Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange between Italy and the US (Rome)
During his/her stay at the Commission, the intern will
work to build up the database of the American Fulbright Alumni Directory. The project will be fulfilled
under the supervision of the Fulbright Commission
Executive Director. The intern must be proficient
in computer skills. A basic knowledge of Italian

Fulbright Commission for Educational Exchange
(actual sponsor) and Charles University (Prague,
Fall, Spring) The internship would be most suitable
for students majoring in international education,
teaching or counseling, educational leadership or
administration, or international relations, but students
with other majors are also welcome. The intern will
work part-time (three days a week) at the Fulbright
Commission’s Advising Center, assisting the adviser
in collecting and updating information resources,
maintaining a reference library, as well as providing
local students with information on study and life at US
universities, essay writing, and standardized testing.
The student will be trained by an experienced adviser, who will be available to help, advise and supervise the intern. In addition, the intern will lead Eng-
lish conversation courses at Charles University. To
follow the Charles University schedule, the fall term is
from Sept. 1 to Jan. 30, and the spring term is from
Feb. 1 to June 30. The Commission will cover the
expense of dormitory accommodation made available
by the university and will also provide the intern with
a round-trip, six-month airline ticket and with local
transportation in Prague. Excellent oral and written
English skills, knowledge of US higher education
and some teaching experience are required.

Fundación Jatun Sacha (Quito, Ecuador) The
Jatun Sacha Foundation is a private, non-profit Ecuadorian organization founded in 1989 to promote
biological conservation, research, education and
community programs. The Volunteer Program provides practical experience for students interested in
contributing to Jatun Sacha’s conservation projects
and activities. Two interns will work on a variety of
projects under the supervision of resident researchers, environmental education instructors and administrative staff of each reserve and may participate in
research, education, community service, station
maintenance, plant conservation and agroforestry
activities. Interns should have a good working
knowledge of Spanish. They should be able to
undertake strenuous and sometimes tedious
labor in a hot, tropical climate under primitive
conditions. Candidates must present a recent
health certificate, two photographs, and a police
report stating any offenses. Alcohol and drugs are
prohibited at all sites. Volunteers must have their
own health insurance and need to sign a waiver to
release Jatun Sacha from responsibility from any
illness or injury incurred in Ecuador. Applicants may

Globe Neuss Shakespeare Festival (Neuss, Germany) The intern, who should have German language skills and an interest in Shakespeare, may
work in program and brochure production, with some
translation involved; may assist the production manager with organizing festival performances, hosting
visiting acting companies; and organizing evening
performances and bar activities; or may be involved
in promotion, distributing posters and flyers and coordinating radio, press and television interviews. The
Festival 2006 takes place from early June to midJuly, and the internship is expected to last from the
beginning of May through the end of July. The intern
must show proof of health insurance.

Grayling Political Strategy (Brussels) With more
than 16 years’ experience in government and media

and, if appropriate, editorial writing. The intern will
also be involved in other projects as the need arises
and will assist in the general office work of this small
but busy department. The intern will need to be a
self-starter and quick learner with an eye for detail who can work well on tight deadlines. Excellent writing and communication skills are a must.
So too is a good knowledge of history and current affairs. The editorial page of The Wall Street
Journal has a distinctive philosophy, and candidates would do well to familiarize themselves
with it. Language ability in any European language, especially German, would be an asset.

Westminster Strategy (London) Westminster
Strategy is part of the Grayling Political Strategy
network, with offices in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Stormont,
Paris and Brussels. As members of the Grayling
Group, in turn part of Havas Advertising, the international network covers Europe, the United States, the
Far East and South Africa and enables the company
to provide fully-coordinated public affairs programs at
a truly international and regional level. This internship represents an ongoing development, following
the program’s long-standing relationship with Profile
Corporate Communications, now subsumed into
Westminster Strategy. As before, the student
should likely have knowledge of Word for Windows, experience in media writing and a keen
interest in UK politics. An intern with an interest
in marketing and writing and able to perform

WICE (Paris, early Summer) Run by a body of over
100 volunteers, WICE is a nonprofit multinational
educational and cultural association offering hundreds of educational programs in English in the fields
of art, history, studio arts, personal and professional
development, literature and writing, living in France
and TEFL. The intern should be very flexible and
must be computer literate. The student will begin
with public-oriented work at the front welcome desk,
helping to answer phone and walk-in queries, and will
also take care of general office duties such as photocopying and preparing the mail. Once the intern has
a good knowledge of how WICE works, he or she can
use computer skills to help design in-house flyers
and gain some publishing experience by working on
the WICE catalog. The intern will also help in organizing classes, preparing course descriptions and
assisting with the actual classes. Ownership of a
project is also foreseen. Students with public relations/advertising or with accounting backgrounds
would be especially good candidates. Some
knowledge of French language and culture is an
advantage. The successful intern should enjoy
talking with people and should have patience and
