Search Tip extraordinaire- The Age online
Use Google's advanced search http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en to access
Age articles. Just enter your keywords and limiting your search to the domain theage.com.au
to access online archives. This is a hit and miss affair, as some articles may have simply
been removed from The Age's site. Many thanks to Glenn Harper from Frankston and
Maryanne Gosling from ERL for this tip.
Debating Database
http://www.debatabase.org
Great for students involved in public speaking and debates. The debatabase comes from the
International Debating Education Association, whose mission is to promote mutual
understanding and democracy globally by supporting discussion and active citizenship locally.
The debatabase can be searched via keyword or themes, with the latest topics posted on the
front page. A search for "Drugs in Sport" brings up for and opposing arguments, with referrals
for more information to web links and books.
For the history buffs…
http://www.history.uk.com/
A site that describes itself as the "ultimate UK history directory". The site can be searched via
keyword, or browsed, using a timeline from 10,000 BC to the present day, or topics. Web links
are provided to a range of resources such as libraries, museums and educational institutions.
The Virtual Library Zine is edited by Brendan Fitzgerald and Stephanie McGlinchey.
