Monthly Report November 2012
Highlights:
 Students in Mrs. Steinwart’s FOCUS class read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and then watched the movie. They created
flipping ebooks using flipsnack.com. To view a few of their projects, click here.
 Students in Mr. Chonko and Mrs. Reynolds’ Honors Algebra 2 classes completed the Parabola Project. These projects turned
out really great! To view Mr. Chonko’s projects, click here. To view Mrs. Reynolds’ projects, click here.
 Mrs. Stilwell’s Anatomy students researched cardiac diseases and created a Zen Powerpoint presentation. The students worked
in groups and the PowerPoint slides could not contain any text. They were not allowed to use any notecards during the
presentation, but were required to be experts of the material.
 Mrs. Worthington’s AP CA IV students endured MLA bootcamp and wrote a literary criticism essay. This will prepare them for a
longer research paper in the spring.
 America Decides students in Mr. Smajda’s classes created campaign videos for fictional candidates. Students were tasked with
working in groups to identify a demographic, write a short paper, create a map, and create the commercial geared toward their
target demographic. Students watched the videos in class and evaluated each other. Click here to see the videos.
 We worked with over 170 classes in the library this month, even with the holiday break!
 The library received 2 amazing grants from the Blue Valley Education Foundation. One grant will fund a Navigators initiative and
will provide us with a 9-foot tall inflatable mustang mascot. Students in Interpersonal Relationship classes will use the mascot to
interact with their fellow classmates and participate at assemblies. There is well researched documentation that students with
Autism Spectrum Disorders excel in the costume due to white noise provided by the inflation fan, the space buffer provided by
the suit and the air inside of it, and the non-verbal communication required to perform in the suit.
 The second grant was for a classroom set of digital cameras including cards, card readers, and cases. These cameras will be
available for checkout and we already have several lessons planned.
