JOB ANNOUNCEMENT TITLE CODER EMPLOYER: ROCKY BOY HEALTH BOARD SUPERVISOR: REVENUE GENERATION LEADER SALARY: NEGOTIABLE DOE STATUS: REGULAR FULL-TIME OPENING DATE: SEPTEMBER 17, 2015 CLOSING DATE: SEPTEMBER 30, 2015 (4:30pm) Probationary Period: Sixty (60) calendar days from initial appointment MAJOR DUTIES: The primary function of this position is to perform International Classification of Diseases (ICD) version, 9CM, ICD-10 CM, Health Care Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding for reimbursement. Performs comprehensive review of the record data. Ensures the final diagnosis as stated by the physician is valid, complete and accurately reflect the care and treatment rendered. Evaluates the record for documentation, consistency, accuracy, and correlation of recorded data, such as medical necessity and modifier usage. Analysis provider documentation to assure the appropriate evaluation and management (E&M) levels are assigned using the correct CPT codes and applicable modifiers. Accurately utilizing the Patient Care Component (PCC) internet based encoder, in order to select the most accurate and descriptive ICD-9-CM and/or ICD-10-CM coding (from a number of similar choices) for: Final diagnosis problem list additions and treatment notes; Outpatient operative procedures which may require anatomical and physiological correlation of the diagnosis to the operation; Cause and place of injury using ICD-9 & 10 CM coding conventions; Laboratory tests ordered using the I.H.S. laboratory codes. Assures diagnostic and procedural terminology used is consistent with currently acceptable medical nomenclature. Incumbent directly participates in discussion with the medical and nursing staff no the anatomical and physiological process of a diagnosis to select the most accurate ICD-9 & 10-CM, HCPCS and CPT code as well as to clarify documentation on the PCC encounter. Corrects the error listing daily, weekly, and before the end of each fiscal year. Will review, evaluate, and advise on the effectiveness, technical adequacy and suitability of work and proposals of others (in-house, other activities, industry) in resolving complicated and critical problems in the specialized area. Serves as back-up in Medical Records Department/Patient Registration when needed. Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and/or Chief Executive Officer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A.A. degree in Computer Science or related field or two (2) years coding experience. Knowledge of ICD-9-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT coding. CPR/First Aid or obtains certification within 3 months. Mus have excellent communication skills. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or four (4) years experience in Coding Field. Certified Coder or obtain certification Indian preference, enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe preferred. Knowledge of Resource Patient Management System (RPMS). Other Selection Criteria: Will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. If terminated from any positions within the Chippewa Cree Tribe for violations of the Drug and Alcohol Ordinance I-99, must comply with the requirements of the ordinance. Qualified Chippewa Cree members who are honorably discharged veterans will be given preference DD214 required.
