ASSOCIATION PROFILE Lesotho Football Association, is relatively young Association, it is about ten years old, whereas football per se in Lesotho is probably the oldest and biggest sporting discipline in the entire country. Lesotho Football Association was formed under the Lesotho Sports Act Bill. It is affiliated to the following international Federations: - FIFA CAF COSAFA It is a body corporate and statutory and legal provisions, it is composed of associate members, and voluntary joined by a common purpose to direct, control, monitor, facilitate and develop the love for, and game of football in Lesotho, to high and claimed quality standards. The Association has established structures from top down to village levels to initiate develop and manage football games, for local, national and international participation, within the legal parameters set out by Lesotho Football Association, Lesotho Sports Council/Commission, COSAFA, CAF and FIFA. Lesotho Football season is running from August to May. 2. VISION - To translate the wishes and expectations of the nation into a reality. Resuscitate the enthusiasm of the supporters in the quality of local games. Restore the pride of the nation in their national squad(s) e.g. Likuena etc. Lesotho Football Association is prepared to achieve excellence, effective and efficient ways in controlling, managing and developing football as its day-to-day activities. To achieve all the above Lesotho Football undertakes to: - Install proper management systems - Inset right frame of mind of managers and soccer administrators. - Cooperation with all stakeholders 3. Main Objectives of the Association: 3.1 SHORT TERM OBJECTIVES - Establish full-fledged administrative offices at distracts levels, run by full time Administrative Secretary. 3.2 - Acquire sites in the name of the Association for future sporting facilities in all 10 districts of Lesotho. - Strive to acquire sponsorship(s) for the Association and (its clubs) and existing competitions and to initiate new competitions where possible. - Establish business partnership(s) with business community in Lesotho and abroad for the development of football. MEDIUM TERM OBJECTIVES - Convert the position of Secretary General and Treasurer into the position of full time paid ( Chief Executive Officer) - Assist to acquire sponsorship for all Premier League Teams and all national teams. - Initiate and establish “Youth Leagues” categorized as U-12, U-15, U-17 and U-20 as actual grassroots Development Programmes at village, district and national level. - Engage highly qualified Foreign Coach for the following responsibilities: - 3.3 Technical Director Head Coach - National Team LONG-TERM OBJECTIVES - To develop and promote the Premier League to professional level. - Close focus on women and Youth football Development Programmes. - Establish a “School of Excellence” – Academy - Attain high level qualified Local Technical staff in all areas e.g coaching, refereeing etc. - Achieve sustainable financial independence to generate at least 30% - 40% of funds required to run the Association. 4. Has been the General Manager for Pioneer Motors (Toyota dealership franchise) by I.NDC. Later joined BP Oil as Lesotho Resident Manager for ten (10 years). Managing assests of BP in Lesotho, distributing and marketing oil products in the country. Leadership track record in business is undoubtable. His love for sports started while still young. He became senior football player up to the National team for many years. Joined football National Executive Committee in 2002 as the Chief Executive Officer- on full time basis. NB: On the above organizational structure you will notice that, the department of Marketing and Technical functions. This department is not manned at the moment, due to financial constraints. It is for that reason that we are outsourcing these functions. 5. 6. LIKUENA Likuena is a cream of our soccer talent and the National Pride of the Basotho Nation. It is an Appropriate medium vehicle which could be used to; promote your business interest I.e. product, services of any company. Likuena is assembled on the basis of the number of international competitions that Lesotho Football Association has registered for any given year, i.e. World Cup, CAF, and African Cup of Nations and COSAFA. For Likuena to do the above, it must camp adequately enough for its preparations and supplied With requisite equipment like training gear, balls, boots etc. Likuena at some stage experienced a series of unsuccessful games, and that affected our National morale .However, there is improvement in the recent year and has played well against Some African’s giants like Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe, until Likuena reached finals of COSAFA 2000, where it met with Zimbabwe although we lost. 10. FOOTBALL DEVELPOMENT INITIATIVES Currently LEFA is embarking on an intensive development programme focusing mainly On the following categories: - Youth Football U-15, U-17, U-20 age groups - Women Football U-15, U-17, U-19 age groups - Training Course for Coaches, Referees and Administration The Programme is spread all over the country centered each of the ten (10) districts with full Football structure in every one of them of them called “District Football Association” charged With full responsibility to develop football in their respective districts, Head Office Located in Maseru, “LEFA” The Youth and Women at compete at Zonal level, at Districts level, until nationally whereby National Teams of respective age groups are selected first for school of excellence during school holidays. The schools are the main in integral part of the programme, since the age group is the school going age. The main costs centres of development football are: 1. 2. 3. 4. Supply of training gear for different age groups. Traveling expenses for teams and training coaches. Equipment: balls, nets cones, bibs etc Training courses for coaches, referees and administrators. In this programme the U-20 group is aimed for World Cup 2010. U-15 is a project team For World Cup 2014. U-20 ACTIVITIES See attached document marked “ Eye on 2010” 11. LOCAL COMPETITIONS 1. Premier League Competitions: The 16 teams compete in a League format. At the moment we have the main league and top 8 leagues. There could be more forms of Leagues per season depending on the availability of sponsors. In the main league the top team goes out to play internationally in CAF Club Championships. The top four teams play Tournament on Round Robin Basis. 2. “A” Division The 20 teams compete similarly as above and both are National Leagues. The top two teams here are promoted to the Premier League end of the season. 3. “B” & “C” Divisions These are competing within districts by Zones and then up to district competitions until the two emerge to be promoted to the top league (“A” or “B”)
